dont start buying into all this voter fraud stuff, these reports are generally unfounded and usually have a reasonable explanation. There is a reason nothing ever happens in the cases where people accuse others of deliberate voter fraud. It is because there is usually nothing to it.

Voter corruption in Nevada? By a union? Really?

Unsung, you should have more respect for old Harry. If not for him, we'd be in a worldwide depression.

I wouldn't want to bet but dems are showing better than expected numbers in early voting so far. It's going to be close, that's for sure. Let me tell you, if there is any corollation to # of signs in yards to votes cast, Angle will win big.

I'm not sure either, but I will say that voting machines should not be run by any group that donates to a PAC.

They should be run by normal people that volunteer their time.

But... I have no idea HOW voting machines actually work... you know, the nuts and bolts operations of the machine itself, do you? I mean, I'm sure I'd be able to voluenteer at a polling station in the capacity of collecting ballots and making sure the person's name and address in on the list and hand out the 'I Voted' sticker... but, knowing how to fix or validate a voting machine... no fucking clue.

I guess if they are computers someone might be able to program them. I have heard of systems having certain candidates already selected by default which is really screwed up.

Need to have paper ballots that the candidates name is in big block letters with plenty of room. Make people circle their vote with ink. No chads, no programming. Keep it simple. Each ballot would have a watermark to deter fakes.

Now that I think about it the libertarian candidate for Illinois governor is Rich Whitney. Up in Chicago one of the wards has a computer voting system set that when it comes to the review screen it displays his name as "Rich Whitey". It just so happens it is a ward that over 90% of the people are black.

That is seriously fucked up. And no they didn't fix it, they said it was too late. I heard about it two weeks ago.

Local news link about this. I agree with those that say that those that maintain/program these machines should be distanced politically from them but it looks like a non-situation in this case.

On other message boards some are threatening riots and violence if Reid wins because they feel it will vindicate their belief the voting machines are rigged.

    Another SCARE Tactic
[Don’t let them stop you from Voting]

This is nothing but bullshit being fed by out-of-state corporations, private equity firms, and sheltered non-profit groups that are pouring in money to fund these puppeteer candidates in order to gain control of Congress. They don’t give a shit about what happens internally within your State.

    1. The title is misleading, they are not SEIU voting machines, they are the property of ES&S in Nebraska who now owns Diebold/Premier in Ohio and TX.

    2. If anyone should be investigated it should be ES&S and the McCarthy Group, along with Bob and Todd Urosevich; and, its six degree of separation from Matthew Devost and Erik Prince.

    3. ES&S accounts for 80% of our electronic vote. ES&S is the number one with two-thirds of the vote counting software and the biggest supplier of touch screen machines. Sequoia - with one-third of the voting machines on the market - is usually regarded as number two.
It’s so easy to cater to ignorance and stupidity in order to create a scenario to make people believe that a union has ability tamper with or has instructed its members to tamper with these already suspected, faulting voting machines in the event Reid wins.

Stop letting your common sense be brought, Sharron’s poll numbers have been steadily slipping over the past 6 weeks because people got to hear her speak on issues and just like, in the case of Palin, they see that she is not someone they want leading them and more voters are planning on turning out, so the lies, misinformation, and threats are started as a scare tactic to keep people from coming out to vote.

Clark County is where three quarters of Nevada's residents and live and where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's son Rory is a county commissioner. Rory is also a Democratic candidate for governor.

Since early voting started, there have been credible reports that voting machines in Clark County, Nevada are automatically checking Harry Reid's name on the ballot:

Voter Joyce Ferrara said when they went to vote for Republican Sharron Angle, her Democratic opponent, Sen. Harry Reid's name was already checked.

Ferrara said she wasn't alone in her voting experience. She said her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

"Something's not right," Ferrara said. "One person that's a fluke. Two, that's strange. But several within a five minute period of time -- that's wrong."

Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said there is no voter fraud, although the issues do come up because the touch-screens are sensitive. For that reason, a person may not want to have their fingers linger too long on the screen after they make a selection at any time.

Now there's absolutely no independently verified evidence of chicanery with the voting machines (yet), but it is worth noting that the voting machine technicians in Clark County are members of the Service Employees International Union. The SEIU spent $63 million in elections in 2008 and is planning on spending $44 million more this election cycle -- nearly all of that on Democrats. White House political director Patrick Gaspard is formerly the SEIU's top lobbyist, and former SEIU president Andy Stern was the most frequent visitor to the White House last year.

Just in Nevada, the SEIU has given a lot to groups that are heavily vested in the state -- in just one prominent example, the SEIU gave $500,000 to the Patriot Majority PAC, which has spent $1.3 million against Reid's opponent Sharron Angle. They've and have dropped large sums directly on candidates:

    NV-3
    Joe Heck (R)
    Oppose
    $140,000.00

    NV-3
    Dina Titus (D)
    Support
    $344,984.00

    NV-Senate
    Sharron E. Angle (R)
    Oppose
    $225,000.00

Now the county voting technicians aren't unique here -- many of Clark County's employees are also represented by the SEIU. But it is worth mentioning, the SEIU is hyperpoliticized and has seen its fair share of corruption. (It certainly seems more questionable than Diebold, the voting machine manufacturer with Republican ties that was at the center of many conspiracy theories on the left during the Bush administration.)

Unions increasingly have a major financial stake in election outcomes, both as a matter of their own election expenditures, and as a function of what they stand to gain if their legislative agenda is enacted. Should they really be responsible for tabulating the votes? That's certainly something voters ought to think long and hard about.

Below is Clark County's SEIU contract -- On Page 75, in Appendix A, voting machine technicians are listed as positions represented by SEIU.

"Clark County election officials insisted on Tuesday that electronic voting machines were not malfunctioning at polling locations are some voters complained that Sen. Harry Reid's name had been pre-selected.

Controversy arose after Boulder City resident Joyce Ferrara complained to FOX5 that when she went to vote for GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle, Reid's name was already checked.

"Something's not right," Ferrara said. She claimed her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said those claims were “patently false” and said at no time did any of those voters report the incident to staff at their polling location.

“In fact, although over 160,000 people have voted early in Clark County, those allegations that have been made have gone directly to the media as opposed to election board officers,” he said.

Lomax advised voters to be aware that touch-screens on the screens are sensitive. For that reason, a person may not want to have their fingers linger too long on the screen after they make a selection at any time.

"Especially in a community with elderly citizens (they have) difficulty in (casting their) ballot," Lomax said. "Team leaders said there were complaints (and the) race filled in."

At any time, voters can go back on the screen and review their selections. They are also allowed to make changes and encouraged to double-check their ballot on screen and on paper before it is cast."

Electronic voting machines are being blamed for anxiety in Nevada as several early voters are complaining that when they began to cast their ballot Majority Leader Harry Reid's name was already selected.

Boulder City resident Joyce Ferrara, who wanted to vote for Republican Sharron Angle, told her local Fox news station that she could understand if such an aberration happened just for her, but her husband and several others at a polling place also experienced the malfunction.

"Something's not right," Ferrara said. "One person that's a fluke. Two, that's strange. But several within a five-minute period of time, that's wrong."

Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax assured the news station that there was no monkey business with the machines and explained that the screens are simply extremely sensitive. With cameras rolling, he showed that if anyone had an advantage it would be Angle, whose name gets checked off if a voter clicks the English option too many times or if his or her finger lingers too long on the opening screen.Lomax thinks that voters should rest easy, but after the jump, there's some video from around the country and around the world that shows how easy it is to hack electronic voting machines.

In 2008, the Netherlands became the first country in Europe to use electronic voting machines. But when convinced how easily they could be manipulated and tampered with, it became the first country to ban them. Here is video of several men needing just 60 seconds to switch out the memory chips in the machine.

If the problem is only in one county, then why hasn’t the company recalled and/or replaced the MACHINES, there’s still time. Why didn’t the company send out its own technician or programmer? Why blame the SEIU simply because the technician is a union member? Its bullshit, why didn’t the voter notify the onsite agent? These MACHINES let you review and change your selections as many times as needed before registering your vote.

Voters also have the option of using a paper ballot.

Being a computer geek... it sounds like there is a problem with the front end application that interfaces with the user. More of a software issue, than hardware.
And the bottom line... the VOTER can review their ballot, make corrections or changes if needed, prior to submitting it.
THINK about it... hasn't anyone ever purchased something online? Don't you review your purchase before submitting it? I do. I want to make sure I am spending my money on a Pearl Jam ticket in San Diego, not a Jonas Brother concert in Hoboken.

The key thing is, NO ONE is forgetting about Florida.

When it comes to Congressional elections – YOUR VOTE – actually counts. There’s no electoral college to deal with – IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU and YOUR VOTE and you keep letting it get compromised by the hype. This is one of your Constitution rights.

We, as a country, had 9 years to demand modification to the voting machines that allowed more accurate tracking. Instead, we let 30 second shout outs about big government interfering with private enterprises put a stop to any such Congressional progress. LISTEN UP - Once elected these Representatives and Senators are the big GOVERNMENT. What happen to Civics 101!!!

THINK ABOUT THIS, you can raise 5 million dollars via your phone for a relief aid, but there’s no company that can manufacture a voting machine that can produce a verifiable tracking system for your vote? Why is that!!!!

Your vote, your right, exercise it. Its not about SEIU, Reid or Sharron, its about you.

I can explain it to you...the county employees are idiots and have decided that they do not wish to have their own say in their lives so they have formed a union where some guy in another city sits at a desk and gets paid to decide what's best for them. It's the same thing for those that want big government, they give up their voice and freedoms in order for mommy and daddy to take care of them for life. Sad really.

I thought it meant that the county would only deal with the one union in working out collective bargaining agreements instead of what Los Angeles County (for example) has to do... deal with the county sheriff's union, the county firefighter's union, the county clerk's union, the county electrician's union, the county water works union, etc... and that the agreements reached would affect all of the employee classifications listed in the contract.
The list of occupations are listed in Appendix A.

You seem to be missing the point.

Do you mean, missing the point that you are able to form an opinion based upon a complete lack of knowledge on what the referenced material means, that is the sole support of the article's opinion?
    Then, what is your point?
