How to embed a link??

Can someone please tell me how I can include a link to an article e.t.c within the sentence, without having to paste the whole link on the page?

I'm sure there's probably a technical term for this but I'm a bit of a philistine so I don't know what it's called. Is it called an 'embedded link'?

I know some of you know how to do this because I see it all the time,

How do you insert a link into a word or sentence on the page instead of having to lay the whole thing out like this: posting.php?mode=reply&f=14&t=142877
