the old modem seemed to have connection issues...we would lose signal and once we unscrewed the cable and then screwed it back in everything would be fine. It is a few years old so I decided to get a new cable modem.

both modems are motorola

anyway...the new modem is supposed to allow up to 130mbs...the old one 100mbs

I am getting a signal but the connection is not as good. very choppy...

is there something else I have to do? I read online about maybe having to upgrade the firmware on my router?

help!!!????!!!1

Did you call your cable company and give them the new modem's MAC ID? It's the number on the bottom of the modem. They need this info for proper routing. I recently got a new modem, and the tech mentioned that on their end, our service was pretty choppy, I haven't had and issues with the new modem :)
I'd also ask the cable company to check your signal strength...maybe if it's a poor signal, they will come out and do some work for free in your area....or at least give you some sort of credit. Good Luck!
