Question about Damien Echols
Brain Of E

So I know that Damien Echols helped write Army Reserve, but how did he submit the lyrics? Did Ed visit him in prison, did he write letters or over the phone? Just curious if anyone knows this.

My understanding is that Ed visits him regularly, and done so has for some time.

I still can't believe people feel this way after all the evidence (and lack there of) has come about in the past few years.
I think once you become educated on the case ie)watch both documentaries, read both books, go through all the court transcripts, pictures, confessions from the jury etc you cannot say they got a fair trial, let alone call him a rapist/murderist. IMO

I saw Paradise Lost and no I don't think they got a fair trial.....but I still think they're guilty. I wish the prosecutors did things correctly so their would be no questions.

Simply look into all the facts is all I ask. If you still feel they are guilty then so be it. I've gone as far as joining a website for people who believe they are guilty and the numbers have significantly dropped over the past few years and now people are appologizing for their previous actions/opinions.
When the accused parents are now coming forward saying they believe they are innocent and jury members are now saying had they had all this information come the original trial they would have never been convicted.

Look all I know is that Misskelley made A LOT of claims during his "false confession." Did they get the confession from him legally? No, he was underage and his parents didn't give consent. Is he the sharpest knife in the drawer? No, I think they say his IQ is between 70-80. But he must have quite the imagination to specially name Echols and Baldwin as murderers.
You supporters of the WM3 cite that very interview as one of many things wrong with this case....and you're right. I just don't think made all that stuff up on the spot.

You can read the entire Miskelley confession on the website and in the book Devils Knot.

Jessie was shown a picture of the murdered boys and a circle was drawn around them (they were on the inside) and the police then placed the pictures of Jason and Damien on the outside of the circle. They asked him, do you want to be with them or with Jason and Damien? Who would you answer when you're young and a low IQ? With murdered kids or two of your friends?
As for having an imagination, there was a young girl who testified hearing Damien talking about the murders at a baseball game. She has now come forward admitting she made it up. If she can have an imagination, then it's safe to say, after being questioned for hours on end only to have less then an hour actually taped you would come up with whatever needed to get the hell out.
If you're simply basing your opinion on Jesse's inclusion of Jason and Damien in his confession, this debate doesn't seem worthwhile :(

And that's enough to send someone to the death chamber?
We'll know for sure shortly, it appears.
To the original poster, Ed and Damien have been in contact for a long time in a variety of ways.
fine then I'm done.

And I can't believe so many musicians got together in London to celebrate the 90th birthday of a terrorist
I don't get the reference here.
Pearl Jam bootlegs:
http://wegotshit.blogspot.com
Just because someone is jailed and has been accused of something, it does not mean that they are guilty. The reference was to Nelson Mandela, whom the US government considered for the longest time the member of a terrorist organization.
The point is... what is it that you can't believe? That Ed would write a song with a murderer/rapist? As far as he is concerned, he didn't. He wrote a song with a bright man who has spent half his life in jail because he wore black and listened to music most people in his town objected to.
Mandela.....of course.
Look, I don't care about the West Memphis 3. It's just another murderer case among millions. I can believe (but don't care) that Eddie co-wrote a song with him. the murderer/rapist thing was meant to be taken in jest (hence the Wilson reference)...for people who blindly support the WM3 just because their hero Eddie does. And I'm not saying that's you. But they're around.

I got curious about the case because of its resonance in the music world, sure. I didn't express my opinions on the case until I learned more. Then I did. I do think that those unjust practices you yourself mention are something to be outraged about. I have no way of knowing whether they are guilty or innocent, but if someone has to spend their life in jail or be put to death I regard it as my duty as a human being to make sure that they had a fair trial.
I can understand your frustration about people blindly supporting them. I just want people to be educated about the case before making decisions on it.
I did become aware of the case from Henry Rollins and then Ed, however, based my opinion solely on the evidence presented both in the past and present.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree. But I'm just not the type to care about three guys who may have been wrongfully convicted of a something when there are thee kids dead. It's so bad when it's kids.
Pearl Jam bootlegs:
http://wegotshit.blogspot.com
i think the WM3 case is equally horrible as the dead children.
Equally? Even if they're 100% innocent, at least they're still alive. I mean, I totally understand that serving a life sentence for a crime you didn't commit is total bullshit. But those kids were 100% innocent too and they're dead. Life wasn't fair to them. Just like, in the opinion of some, life isn't being fair to Echols. That's life.
Pearl Jam bootlegs:

Wow.
Well, you couldn't help the murdered kids, but you can help these three who were still kids when they were convicted?
Next time I see you being beaten up on the side of the road perhaps I should just reflect on the unfairness of life and keep going, eh?
When the heck was the last time you saw me getting beaten up on the side of the road anyway?
I get it, you support the West Memphis 3. That's fine. I don't. And I don't support Ed's support of them.
Pearl Jam bootlegs:

Are you saying it's better to have someone wrongfully convicted of a crime to serve the time than nobody at all?
no, I just said I don't care about them. I'd sing a much different tune if it was a friend or family member of mine. But since it's just some guys from Tennessee, I don't care.
Pearl Jam bootlegs:
http://wegotshit.blogspot.com
That's sad, cause your life, the life of your friends, and the life of your family members would not be the way it is without someone you don't know who is caring. I know most people feel the way you do, it's just a little shocking to hear it stated so bluntly.
See, I can even handle the fact that you consider them just some guys.
Calling them murdering/rapists when there was never even signs of rape is beyond ignorant. Just learn the fact before you have verbal diarrea
We are way off topic from the OP, can we all just agree that regardless of our opinions of Damien that Army Reserve is a kick ass tune?
Leaving is for the answering machine.
At least he's honest in his stunning apathy, eh?
for the least they could possibly do
it's a good tune

My life probably is affected "by someone I don't know who is caring." But why should that make me care about Echols?
On the flipside, Echols has found support from people who don't know him. And that's fine. It's fine for Ed to support him. It's fine for you to support him. It's LAME for people to support him just because Ed does though. The people who heard him sing "free the west memphis 3" on the Touring Band DVD and suddenly become their biggest supporters are who I'm talking about.
My disdain isn't so much for the WM3. My disdain is for Eddie fanboys who blindly follow him. again, I'm not saying you're one because you seem to be very, very, VERY much a supporter of Echols and his co-assailants. But to many others around here, the WM3 is just another PJ-related thing...not unlike Chris Cornell or poster collecting.

Well, there's probably enough people who do the opposite to even those people out. The ones that say the did it just because they were given the verdict guilty, as if the system is flawless and no one ever got fucked over by it. Those people piss me off to no end so I can see where you're coming from.
