I have been a union member most of my working life by chance..it's where the money is for a guy that has no college degree but I do have huge concerns about the unions and how they are run and their total misuse of power through out the union ranks...it really pisses me off, but any way check this out....what do you think ?

I can't say that I am surprised by this. Unions have a lot to lose if the conservatives get the majority back. With union memberships sharply declining, the dems are their best friends.

Damn... that's a hefty chunk of change.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

I am in a Union shop and I don't support my Union at all. Yes I pay the dues because I have to, but other then that I disagree with them at almost every level. This is the first time I have been in a Union and I can't stand it. Hence the reason I am on the hunt for a job again, 5 years of servitude is long enough.
Thats a lovely accent you have. New Jersey?

Yes, this money could definitely have been spent more wisely than to push for the election of the ‘lesser evil’….the dems are as beholden to big business as the GOP; for the most part it’s just different industries they support. Neither truly support labour IMO.

IMO, unions SHOULD be focusing on two things:
First, they should educate the public about the role they play in a capitalist, democratic system. Remind people of what they’ve helped to achieve in the past, and what the consequences of their fall from public favour have been, and where we’d be if not for their contributions to our society while our countries became industrialized. This seems to be entirely lost on most people these days.

The second is to focus on globalization. In the current global market atmosphere, with the common domestic refrain being “the unions have priced us out of jobs, we can’t compete with foreign labour”….they need to find ways to compete with the corporations doing the outsourcing, by making inroads to new markets, organizing labour in those countries, and pushing for internationally recognized labour standards. The only other option is to either cut these countries out of the global economy entirely, or LOWER labour standards in the Western world. Remember that wages have been stagnant for decades while profits have soared. Does lowering labour standards sound like the right approach in light of that?

The problem with union corruption is the same as it is with the government - the voters do not hold the officials they elect accountable for anything.....
  • Unions like UAW prolong the unsustainable "benefit" systems which result in companies like GM ending up in ruin. Plus their lobbyists are too powerful.

The idea of a union protecting the basic rights and safety of the workers they represent is noble, but most big money unions today are hopelessly corrupt.

the IAM (aerospace and machinest union) is a joke, I see so much favoritism and rule bending to save some lazy ass's job cause he comes to work drunk or has a hard time comong to work at all .....it just bothers me.
