Whilst it would seem these families suffered a number of losses, if they weren't someway related/connected to Layne, we wouldn't really be talking about it and it wouldn't be noted anywhere.

Update to the story: Chris' name was CHRIS STALEY, he was actually Layne's half brother rather than stepbrother.
