while i know this board isnt the most religious or spiritual, theres got to be some of you who listen to religious or spiritual music, right? Chant music? Gospel?

I found out about a 5 disc 1920's/1930's religious song compilation, that Neil Young and Dylan are both fond of, that came out within the last 5 years called Goodbye, Babylon.

I used to listen to quite a lot of gospel music. From the more "traditional" folksy, singer-songwriter stuff to actually full on rock. I know there are some heavy metal gospel bands around too, but it's not my kind of music so I was never really very into them.

The bands/artists I listened to were pretty much all Finnish so I'm not sure if mentioning any names is in any way useful.

I guess Son's of Sylvia would be in the contemporary spiritual genre

    I love them :D

You're so in love with yourself
That you hate yourself, you hate yourself
You're so in love with yourself
That you hate yourself, you hate yourself
So there it begins, the war within
So there it begins, the war within
    The war within
See the lions, see the dragons, see the beast
See the star that's rising in the east
Feel the trembling of the earth at your feet
See the end and see the evil, see the pride
Feel the fear of the darkness of their lives
See the arrogance burning in their eyes
So there it begins, the war within
So there it begins, the war within
    The war within
So there it begins, the war within
So there it begins, the war within
Oh, I feel the trembling of the earth
I feel the earth trembling under my feet
See a star that's rising, shining in the east
How long? How long? How long?
How long? How long? How long?
How long? How long? How long?
How long? How long? How long?

I like the Hank Wiilliams and Johnny Cash gospel songs.
  • I want Willie Nelson's version of 'I'll Fly Away' to be played at my planting.

Cash also did some really good things.

The Staples Singers did some really good spiritual stuff...even if you don't realize it immediately
Al Green's more recent works and some of the older stuff is really good

Ben Haper & Blind Boys of Alabama album 'There Will Be A Light' is superb

Check out The Word. It's Robert Randolph & the North Mississippi All Stars, all gospel tracks. Exceptional stuff.

I listen to some gospel, mostly brass band type stuff. Dirty Dozen Brass Band did a great album called Funeral for a Friend a few years ago.

I really like the song hallelujah cover by Jeff Martin. Maybe it's not the point of this thread but the whole Tea Party catalog is kinda spiritual.

That sounds pretty good. Sam Cooke had a great voice.

I know Live is considered rock/ grunge but
I find their song messages to be very spiritual bordering on religious
