kin before sin

My duty calls for those thicker than water.
Memories seep through my veins.
Loved ones live in my heart.
I must see their lives through before my own.

But sometimes you need to look out for number one, she said.
As she sailed on to greener pastures.
Sometimes you have to cut those ties or else you'll always
be weighed down.
As she took to the sky.

And she looked so beautiful up there.
She lifted her kin right up off the ground.
How was it possible?
Such a lovely sight to see.

But maybe they were already flying?
And I just never noticed?
Maybe she was the one lifted up...
by them?
