If you delete your profile, does it alert all your friends of your absence?

    If they have Better Facebook or a similar Greasemonkey script installed, they might just have the option switched on to alert them if some eejit deletes them or otherwise vanishes.

    And no, your friends don't know. They might figure it out if they count their friends and realize they are -1 but otherwise it might take a while for them to notice.

    I don't think so. I've been deleted by some and have only noticed when I haven't seen their stuff on my newsfeed anymore.

    You probably already know this but you aren't actually deleting it, only deactivating it. If you were to sign up again with the same name and e-mail everything you have now would still be there. All your pictures are now property of Facebook. It is kind of like 1984.

    I have an account but I had I realized what it entailed I probably never would have signed up in the first place.
