so halloween is just around the corner and as my favorite holiday, i love watching horror films.

Whats your favorite? Im more a fan of the classics, the original Texas Chainsaw, the original Last House, Blair Witch etc...

Classics?

Newer horror flicks?

Whats the perfect bunch of scary movies to turn off the lights, and become paranoid after watching?

You cannot go wrong with The Exorcist and The Omen.
Watched Damien -the Omen II last night on TV.
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream
Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me

    Alien
    Poltergeist

    Nothing else really scares me.

I love the Shining, but it doesn't really scare me. I find myself rooting for Jack Nicholson to kill that annoying wife.

Les Diaboliques (1955) directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot NOT the awful version with Sharon Stone. Get the original, it's really creepy - not Saw gory/violent, just very slow and strange and good.

    The Shining for me.

I'm wheelchair-bound right now waiting for my broken femur to heal and I realize what's really scary... being confined to a wheel chair watching horror flicks. The inability to escape is quite terrifying.

Can we agree that movies like Hostel and the Saw movies are not really "horror"? They aren't scary. Torture and gore doesn't = scary.

    My favs:

    Poltergeist
    The Exorcist
    Halloween (the original)
Nightmare on Elm Street (the original)
    The Ring
    Paranormal Activity
    The Shining

That's the movie I was trying to think the name of, thanks! And I won't be watching it...Nor will I be watching Misery...
  • i disagree that hostel isnt scary. while ive never been a fan of modern horror flicks (horror and scaring people is more than blood and bodies, which alot of modern horror has yet to realize) hostel is scary.

the scene where the guy is heading to the "art exhibit" and it becomes clear to him this aint no art exhibit. the fact the art exhibit is in some rural, far away area, in what looks like some burnt out abandoned building. or just the general scene and vibe when he does into that building. the rooms that he sees. what he sees going on. and the fact he could scream all day and night and no one would notice. thats scary my friend. hostel was gutsy and scary because of its outright gore.
