Banned: The Muslim girl who dacked boy after one hijab crack too many

A SIX-year-old Muslim girl has been banned from the school bus because she dacked a boy after he repeatedly told her to take off her hijab.
Darwin company Buslink sent a letter to Middle Point School at Fogg Dam stating year one student Iran Ghavami was banned for ten days for "bullying and harassment of other passengers".

Her Muslim father Karim Ghavami and non-Muslim mother Lorraine Gerassimopoulos were horrified when they pulled the letter out of their eldest daughter's school bag last Friday.

"She is only six years old it is a bit harsh

"We would have preferred a warning so we could have sat down and talked about this incident but they are stopping her from going to school," she said.

..But Buslink's transport services manager Aaron Blasch defended the ban saying the company was only following the Territory's Code of Conduct for School Bus Travel.

Mr Blasch said because she was only six they reduced the ban from ten to five days.

He would not say if the boy, seven, had also been banned.

"If there were other cases of bullying then they would be dealt with," Mr Blasch said.

GOOD FOR HER, it matters none whether or not the bullying is verbal or physical.

"The Muslim girl" is that what makes this story so horrific ?
I got expelled from high school for something I didn't do and it didn't make the news.
A teacher at my sons H.S back handed a student and it never made the news either
but sense this little girl is a Muslim it's news worthy ? sorry but I just don't see anything different that does not happen in most schools every day. story's like this one only feed the fire of racism, it should be handled like any other 6 year old scrape at any other school. IMO

Is dacking the Australian version of decking? Did the little girl lay out a right cross that took the bully down?

my brothers and i were kicked off the school bus repeatedly for fucking around.
if you think our parents drove us to school youre nuts.
we lived 5 miles from town.
when we were kicked off the school bus for one or two weeks that is when we walked or rode our bikes.
and usually it was only one of us that was kicked off the bus while the other two were good to go.

    this girl is awesome.
i'd have punched the fucker too.
and then i'd be removed from the bus for a few weeks.

I dunno if the Muslim part had anything to do with it, but I agree with your sentiment. Why is this news again? "Bully" (which implies a pattern though the article gave no evidence of such) runs his mouth, girl punches him in response, girls gets suspended. I don't feel bad for the "bully" in this situation one bit, but you hit someone in response to talk, you're going to be punished and deservedly so.

I don't know if you've ever been bullied but in many cases when one ignores "talk" as you say it only festers a bully to ratchet up his or her bullying. I gaurantee you he'll think twice about attempting this "talk" to another girl in the future.

sorry, didnt read the article BUT if they live in Texas or Arizona.....I am not surprised. Its sad, she is only 6 and sticking up for herself. Wonder what the boy's parents (the instigator) are like?

    YES, it's a story because she's muslim.
Did your son's teacher backhand someone because of their religious beliefs?
Did you get expelled from high school for your religious beliefs?
This girl was being bullied over her religious beliefs. SHE was the victim and retaliated...and the school is unwilling to say whether the TRUE instigator was punished, leaving the impression that the victim received the only punishment. That makes it newsworthy.

Obviously, the girl understood her religion well enough to know that she's not supposed to take the thing off. I'm sure she conveyed this to the other kid when he told her to. He continued to push and taunt her over it despite that. Obviously, it's not two adults with a full understanding of implications...but it is still about intolerance, and acceptance of the differences between the two...differences the boy publicly and maliciously tried to put the girl on the spot over (bullying). The punishment should have gone both ways. If it didn't, it's an injustice. That's all I'm saying.

the story I read said verbal not puch...I think ? but yes punishment should be dealt to both.
if the little girl was Dutch and smacked the little boy for making fun of her wooden clogs :D this story would have never made the news, I just don't like how they (news) use the Muslim religion to grab the publics attention I just think it's a cheep way to attract readers.

It's news because relations between the West and the Muslim countries are a big issue right now, and when even six-year-olds are harassing Muslims for dressing according to their religious beliefs, it's a sign that there are real problems. The kid had to learn that from somewhere, and my guess is it came from his parents and not from Barney and the Transformers.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

some kids always pick on the different kid, the story is very brief we would need more info to make a judgment call like that and it's a shame that the media would stoop so low to use the story of 6 year old kids in this manor.
    just my opinion.

thats a good point...its a shame the media cant find stories that bring us together instead of highlighting the strife the keeps us apart.....using children to do so is even worse

  • as cajunkiwi expressed, it's news because it is directly related to current events/political relations of the time. Would a black kid dacking a white kid in response make the news now? probably not. but shortly after the rodney king riots you bet your ass it would have been.

the media is not being irressponsible at all. they are just reporting what is current in today's society. and it's important to point out also that just because these kids were six doesn't meant it isn't serious. when do you think racial intolerance starts? it doesn't begin at puberty. ignorant fucks teach it to their kids from the time they start walking so they don't have the frame of reference to know that it's wrong.

I don't condone violence in any shape, but the "bully" should have also been punished along with the girl. no question in my mind.
