The Obama administration is putting the final touches on a security assistance package totaling as much as $2 billion over five years to help Pakistan fight extremists on its border with Afghanistan....

Am I the only one that thinks that this money is more likely to help fund extremists than to fight them? Either that or it will not be completely used for its intended purpose.

what is the difference between this and giving israel $4 billion this year parts of which go to fund equipment that helps maintain an illegal occupation?
i find it funny how those that are all about cutting spending allow this to happen without even a peep from them...

......“Zardari dropped his diplomatic guard. He suggested that one of the two countries was arranging the attacks by the Pakistani Taliban inside his country: India or the US. Zardari didn’t think India could be that clever, but the US could. Karzai had told him the US was behind the attacks, confirming the claims made by the Pakistani ISI".......
Those world leaders and their whacky conspiracy theories.
The Musharaff government was taking in billions of taxpayer dollars, weapons and intelligence to 'be the enemy of our enemy'... and like fucking IDIOTS... we believed them. A country where the most popular name from males children was Usama should have been a clue. Even IF Musharaff was pro Western/pro-U.S. (which i do not believe he was)... the soldiers tasked to finding and killing Bin laden weren't... Hint: They are naming their fucking sons, Usama.
We need to cut our losses and get the fuck out of there. The money will probably end up funding the ones that we are fighting. We are a stupid... STUPID country when it comes to our foriegn policy and have been stupid since 1945.
Hail, Hail!!!
that said i agree with cosmo regarding the sheer stupidity of our foreign policy philosophy. in my opinion we need to completely re-think our foreign policy philosophy are really evaluate who we consider allies and foes..

Thank you, Rocky!
usama is a very common arabic name thats been around for over a millennia. just because the U.S. media says usama in reference to that bin laden guy, (the one that they let go  ) every 23 seconds during news reports, now the name is forever demonized? i guess americans shouldn't name their children george anymore either, or bill, or ronald?
this thread has been here for days, and no one else has said anything about your comment. i find that a bit hard to swallow quite honestly.
There was a large increase in the use of that name after the initial war in Afghanistan in 2002. The Pakistanis , mainly in the Tribal region... were the ones that supported the establishment of the Taliban in Afghanistan with the aid of Pakistan's Secret Police (ISI) after the Soviets withdrew.
The point is... the Pakistani people see themselves closer to the Taliban, than the foriegn Americans. And RIGHTLY so. They understand the language, the customs, the religion and the culture far greater than we do.
But, our foriegn policy of the time did not take this into consideration and figured, if we send tem money and weapons... we can buy their loyalty to help US in OUR cause... no benefits to them.
The hint to our policy makers was that the foot soldiers of the Pakistani Army are closer aligned to Bin Laden, than us. These frontline soldiers are tasked to find, capture, kill bin Laden... only because their leaders... whom they mistrust... are giving the orders.
My point being... we should have gotten the clue... that is their soldiers see Bin laden as a hero and name their sons after him... see bin Laden as bretheren... they are not likely to have a lot of enthusiasm in his capture.
Like fucking idiots... America thought money would do the trick... because money works for us and we'd sell out our own mothers if the price was right. We fail to understand that to some people... their culture and religion mean more to them than a sparkling new Wal-Mart down the road.
Hail, Hail!!!
