There will be a new Nirvana exhibit opening at the EMP on April 16, 2011. It will take over the 'Northwest Passage' area for 2 years. The rest of the NW music objects will be 'resting' in storage. The biggest one ever for Nirvana...it's great to see that Krist and Dave and are putting this together. (Yes, Courtney has some say as well)

'The Nirvana exhibit will be the first in a series of two-year shows that offer "specific explorations of Northwest bands or scenes."' Hope this will include some PJ in the future! :D

Here is a preview from items that will be in the exhibit. There are plans to take the exhibit on the road after 2013. Can't wait for April!

  • That's awesome. The EMP kicks ass. So much cool Hendrix stuff and there's a history of Seattle music section that rocks too. What they need to do is expand that shit. Get rid of the stupid sci-fi museum and add more Hendrix/PJ/Nirvana/Soundgarden/AIC stuff. They also need more stuff from later Seattle bands like Death Cab and Modest Mouse.

REMINDER: The exhibit opens this Saturday (Record Store Day)...a sneak peek from MTV

There is also a book 'Taking Punk to the Masses; From Nowhere to Nevermind'-it's more of a history of the Seattle music scene, but it goes with the exhibit.

Think a trip to Easy street then EMP is in order for this weekend... 8-)

Ok the "History of Seattle" section was actually a "History of NW music" and it has been replaced by the Nirvana exhibit. Also, the sci-fi museum is awesome and is totally detached from the EMP, its in the basement for christs sakes, leave it be, for the most part they have cooler temporary exhibits there then EMPs permanent ones.
