I was just reading the chat Jeff did with espn and came across the following questions and answer...

Brian (Dallas, Texas): Why does Pearl Jam hate Texas? It has been over 5 years since you have played here.

Jeff Ament: (6:29 PM ET ) ask dave abbruzzese....

Anyone know what that jab was all about? I'm not a fan of Dave at all, but its been so long since I actually heard or read his name being droped by any memeber of the band...

    I think I heard Dave was sitting in the nosebleeds last time PJ were in Dallas. Security had to pull him out while he was giggling his ass off from having his way with a new laser pen he bought with his weekly allowance.

    Pearl Jam has been scared to play the south ever since...especially Dave A's stomping grounds in Texas.

    i think it was a joke...but there's prob some truth to it.

    i also asked him when they were coming back to texas and he said that "they'd be back in tejas in the next 10 years..i promise". another odd response to the whole texas question.

    but he also said (i think it was him..maybe it was stone) earlier in an interview that they will be coming to the south soon. as long as they're close this time, i'll travel! :)

    And a few questions earlier someone asked about Texas and he said they would be playing here again.

    I think he was just having fun and giving a smart-ass response on an Internet chat that's all.

    Dave A. does indeed live right here in Dallas.

    I dunno man, they don't play the state of Texas b/c they are worried that Dave A will get in and cause trouble? Doesn't ring for me. If Dave wanted to cause a stir he can't travel to another show? I agree its an odd comment from Jeff tho.

    I just figured they didnt play texas because of the back lash that happened with the Dixie Chicks playing there after they said some very true remarks about your "lovely" president down there... and seeing how eddie likes to "impale" a George W. mask in the past, PJ would more or less be lynched

    Not true. The Dixie Chicks have a much different fan base and those kind of comments (while true) upset the redneck country music fans everywhere. And remember, support for the war and for Bush was much higher then than it is now.

    Pearl Jam makes comments like that and is preaching to the chior for the most part. The war and Bush are nowhere near as popular as they once were. He is the most unpopular president in history. So they can pretty much say what they want and be in line with the majority's thinking.

    Also, except for our little obsessed group of fans, no one really cares what Pearl Jam says, or even knows they are still around.

    Pearl Jam has played three shows in Texas since the Dixie Chicks thing, and they all went fine ... better, apparently, then the legendary Denver show in which he "impaled" the Bush mask.

    PJ has played Denver twice since then, too.

    Other than being completely off-base, you might be on to something, though.

    That's kind of a dickheady thing to say. Then again Jeff always seems to have a stick up his butt and an axe to grind whenever he's interviewed. I'm a big Matt fan but Dave A. was the man. I can't imagine "Vs." without him.
    So this life is sacrifice...
