So in a couple of months, these two will be preforming here. I have never really listened to the Screaming Trees , but really liked Marks work with Mad Season. I have no idea who Campbell is.
Can any one here who attended his shows recommend to me if I should go? The show is on a Tuesday, which is a busy day at work for me. Wednesday is also a long work day for me. On top of that all, I would be going alone because my wife would have to stay home with the baby - he is not old enough for a baby sitter just yet.

Thanks for any input.
Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!

  • Never been to an Lanegan show with Cambell but you will not be dissapointed. Isobel used to be in a band called 'Bell and Sabastian'. Their first 2 albums are pretty good but I wasn't keen on the 3rd. Lanegan is my fav live singer definatley worth going I think.

I'm a huge Lanegan fan, and have been for a long time, but I am not a fan of this collaboration at all. Its just boring to me and lacks a lot of the emotion that is there in all his other music. That being said, I would go see them if they were playing here without thinking twice about it. Lanegan's voice alone is probably one of the best, most powerful I have ever heard live and to be able to see a singer like him in a club type setting is not something you get to see all the time. Plus, he sounds better now than I have ever heard him sound.

Don't worry about going solo either. I stopped dragging people to see bands they cared nothing about a long time ago so I'm used to the solo thing. Its not that bad and once the band goes I'm usually happy there is not someone else there asking me when we can go, or asking if they are going to play the one song they've heard etc....... You can just stand back and enjoy.
  • definitely go

  • Totally agree with PJGarden and others who recommend going to the show. Lanegan has been one of my all-time favorite singers for years, and if you're the least bit interested in him (even without being familiar with his entire catalog) you should fork out the little bit of money for one of his shows.

I actually don't mind the Isobel collaboration--there are a few really good songs between the two; however, I hope their latest, 'Hawk', is their last album together. Personally I would have preferred if Mark made a third Soulsavers album over an Isobel one, but I don't want to sound ungrateful 8-) . Plus Mark needs to continue to explore other avenues....and more importantly, he needs to finish and release his long-awaited follow-up to Bubblegum!!

The Isobel shows seem to be pretty sparse in terms of instrumentation, so you'll really get a chance to hear mark up close and personal. And yes, I've seen Mark several times now as well and each time he sounds better and better. I'm not just gloating as a fan...he quit smoking a little over a year ago and it's REALLY paying off for him (both in the studio and live).

I'm going to see him this Friday in DC and I'm pretty f'in excited about it! :)

Any chance to see this guy in a room with a sparse band should be grabbed.
