Any thoughts about...did she protect John's legacy? Her relationship with Julian? Her relationship with the other beatles? Her relationship with John. Or any other thoughts.

yoko ono is unfairly lambasted in certain circles. she is an artist in her own right and this almost always got lost among the whole 'she broke up the beatles' crapola. it shows a lack of respect for john lennon and for her. sure her art may not be for everyone, but tell me.. what is art? and how does one measure its value?
she is a strong woman and as we know theres nothing mre dangeous that a vagina with strong convictions. ;) she helped john come into his own and i think we should all be appreciative of that.
anyhoo... i like her. i admire her.

  • The only things anyone knows about her relationships (as mentioned in the original post) is what's reported in the press. As we know, a free press does not equal a reliable one. Like anybody's relationships, the only people who really know what's happening in them are the people in them. So, I wouldn't presume to know anything about her relationships with the various individuals and groups named in the original post.

I don't really know enough about her art to have an opinion on that, either. Didn't she do some performance art where people literally cut the clothes off her with scissors? I'm not sure what she was trying to convey with that. And the whole album-full-of-screaming-thing? I haven't heard it, but I don't think I want to.

Her stance on world peace, however, is admirable.

I wonder if that is why she was portrayed in a bad way at times is because she is a strong woman, especially coming across as a strong woman in the 60's. I always thought she did a decent job protecting his legacy, as far as I know everything sold with John's name was done in taste and with good intentions. The real dislike's with her is the dealing of his estate in regards to Julian, as apparently he negotiated a settlement far less than he deserved in order to maintain a good relationship with Sean. The other is not letting Paul McCartney change the song Yesterday to read McCartney/Lennon, since he was totally responsible for that song.

The relationship part I was getting at was more in line with the dealing of the beatles music and is she a big part of the reason why it is not available for digital download, I was just curious if people thought that she would be to hard nosed in moving the beatle catologue forward.

  • There's something cool about not having your music available for (legal) digital download though, isn't there? AC/DC don't have theirs for digital download, either.

    Keepin' it old-skool!!

I just Wiki'd the Fluxus Movement. Pennies are dropping. Thanks!

not true, when they came out with that box set in the late 90's she wrote in the booklet about how john cheated on her....while that is fucked up i didn't think his box set was the proper place to vent about that.

i think she's done a great job at protecting is legacy, at lot better than janie hendrix has done to cash in on her step brother jimi's legacy

John takes six bullets to the chest and she's standing right next to him and not a single bullet. What a shame...

I don't know much about her or them together but I like their 'love message'. i liked the 'love in'
and their peaceful ways of dealing with the world.
I think she was good for him and him her and I wish she hadn't lost the love of her life.
I'd like to think they might have made it lifelong.
