disclaimer: I was NOT drunk, nor am I drunk.

I was driving home tonight with a friend from a bar. I was the designated driver. We were driving home on the NJ parkway. I passed a cop doing the speed limit and soon after my friend tells me he has to throw up. I was in the fast lane. So I was like Are you serious man... fuck. So I go all the way from the left lane to the shoulder (signaling) and before I even stop he opens the door and starts puking....

then BAM cop lights and sirens right behind me. I'm like great this should be fun. Cop asks whats going on I tell him my friends drunk and I was letting him throw up. Asks me how much I had to drink (4 beers) being honest. Steps me out of my car and gives me a sobriety test. I passed of course but holy shit was I fucking nervous. the cop then had me sit in my car and I waited.... 5 minutes later he let me go.

moral of the story: sobriety tests suck even if your not drunk.

Exactly. I even stumbled a few times but it was just because I was so damn nervous.

    4 beers?

Just curious, but what's the legal limit over there? No way would I be driving after drinking 4 beers!

Do you think he shouldn't have given you a sobriety test after admitting to drinking 4 beers. You were the DD for the night and still had 4 beers. If I'm the DD I don't even want a sip of alcohol, I have other people's lives in my hands including my own.

Well obviously depends on how big your beers are. But if you were out all night, 4 beers would be alright.

Here in AUst, (not sure bout the rest of the world) but for a guy, 2 standard drinks in the first hour one every hour after. So over a 5 hour period, 4 would be fine. But it sounds like his mate had been drinking for a long time, so 4 beers would prob be ok. and you have to be under 0.05.

I once got nabbed doing 75 in a 35 coming over the Walt Whitman in Jersey headed for AC. I steam rolled that shit - I don't think I've ever been that focused in my life. Boom. Hour later I'm at the Borgata at 4 in the morning up a grand and drinking vodka on the rocks. Crazy night.

4 beers really isnt really that much. Sure I'll admit its not an amount you want to have if your getting behind the wheel of a car right after, but we were out for awhile, and I also stopped drinking an hour before we left. I had a small buzz, but I was not drunk at all.

Anyway the point was. I got pulled over not because of my driving but because I had to cut over 4 lanes to let my friend throw up and a cop saw. Even though I was perfectly fine to drive, Getting a sobriety test regardless is a nerve wracking mess and makes you just wanna have a few less beers the next time to play it extra safe.

4 beers really isnt really that much. Sure it's getting there as far as driving but that amount doesn't get me anywhere near drunk. I also stopped drinking an hour before we left. And we were drinking for awhile.

Maybe, however even if you don't feel drunk the effects of the alcohol will be there and your driving will be affected (even if you don't perceive that to be the case). It's easy to say you can handle your beer - its better to be sure and abstain. Also stopping drinking an hour before driving doesn't mean anything - the alcohol will still be in your system.

It is true the physical effects of alcohol vary from person to person, but there is ALWAYS an effect.

To me, its about minimising the risk of being responsible for any kind of harm to myself, my friends, my family or the other people on the road. So just get me a lime and soda! :)

Yea I know. I edited my post up above. Basically having it done to you even if your fine makes you wanna drink even less the next time around.

4 beers over the course of a night isn't a big deal.
If he pounded 4 beers in the hour before he got into his car, that would be a different story...and I'm pretty sure the OP would have a much different story to tell altogether...like sharing a cell for the night with a guy named "Tiny".

I wouldn't chance it where I live. They changed the drunk driving laws so that if you blow an .08 you lose your license for three months and will end up paying like $4000 by the end of it to get it back. That's for a first time offense to.
