i thought this was going to be an article from the the Onion

I was listening to Cowhead just before the interview and wound up missing it. I thought he wasn't going to show, but either way I didn't miss much. What a train wreck of an interviewee he is.
2008 Tampa - 2013 Buffalo - 2016 Tampa - 2016 Fenway II Audioslave 2005 MSG
The DJ from this station was pissed today. He was talking about how his interview was getting him a lot of negative attention nationwide. He had to read some statement prepared by Scott Weiland's people and he was clearly upset about it.
I just happened to hear this when I was driving home from work because he was reading the statement.

I don't care about his inteviews. He's a fabulous performer, has amazing stage presence, can sing his arse off, and writes original and interesting vocal melodies. That's what I care about.
My Pearl Jam shows: 1 in 1995, 2 in 1998, 20 in 2003, 13 in 2006, 3 in 2007, 8 in 2008, 5 in 2009, 4 in 2010, 5 in 2012. EV: 8 in 2011, 1 in 2012. Brad: 1 in 1998, 1 in 2002.
In fairness, we knew this was coming. He said in an interview when the last album came out (and I'm paraphrasing): "I haven't done smack in 7 years. I took up drinking. I didn't think it would become a problem." The implication, of course, that Scott has known his drinking IS a problem. He's just in a place (or being PUT in a place) to address it now.
The slurring in his interviews is not a result of being drunk at the time of the interview. His onstage between song banter is frequently slurry and messy, and yet he's bang on with the vocals while the music is playing. It' s just the way he rolls (and I saw STP twice in 2001 and twice this year).

This is ridiculous. That 'vibe' is called a vocal melody, and contributes greatly to how you hear a song. No two singers will come up with the same vocal melody for the same instrumental track, as a rule. Scott's genius is in precisely this area, regardless of whether he can actually write music or not. The wrong melody, and the song is completely fucked. Even the lads in the band say they're excited to see what he'll do with their instrumental tracks. Selling somebody else short and exhibiting your own ignorance is not graceful conduct.

You needn't get so worked up over nothing. I dunno how I'm ignorant. I've clearly listened to pretty well everything Weiland has done.
Did you even read what I said? I wasn't really insulting the guy. He's hand down one of the best ever rock front men.
I relate "vibe" more to overall style and the artistic stamp an artist puts on any given tune they are a part of, not a "vocal melody", and yes melodies are gonna be a pretty big part of any singers vibe. Whether it's been good or band throughout his career there's no denying that he has a certain style, but for me it's not strong enough to carry much on it's own.

I don't really understand what this means.

No they weren't. The first one has some artistic redeemability, but still isn't that great. The 2nd, pretty well awful.
He needs people writin the meat of the music, to where he can come in with the vox and a little bit of that certain vibe he has.
