Mother Love Bone: Apple and Shine EP questions

I have the compilation of the two, the self-titled so-called "Stardog Champion". I was wondering, is there any good stuff about buying the original album Apple and the Shine EP? I'm a big artwork/liner notes guy, so does the compilation derive the liner notes from those two albums, or is it completely different? I might consider picking them both up if there's more to them. If the Shine EP is like other EP's and just has a one-page cover, then I'll probably pass. But I just found out there's a hidden track on it that's not on the compilation: Zanzibar. What's the low down on this track? It seems you can get it by downloading Capricorn Sister off iTunes from that EP. It's two minutes longer than all the other versions.

  • I have originals of all of these: even Apple on vinyl. I seem to remember Zanzibar existing-I think it was a hidden track on the original Shine EP. It is not on the double CD ''Stardog Champion" album which compiles both Apple and Shine.

Apple was also re-released a few years back on CD, I think the company who licensed it was Lemon Records.

All my shit is in storage overseas, so I'm going by memory here.

I can't remember what the inner sleeves of the original Shine EP and Apple LP look like. I don't think they were much. I would imagine if they were particularly striking, I'd remember them more clearly. Too bad I don't have immediate access to my collection, or I'd scan them to help you out.
    My Pearl Jam shows: 1 in 1995, 2 in 1998, 20 in 2003, 13 in 2006, 3 in 2007, 8 in 2008, 5 in 2009, 4 in 2010, 5 in 2012. EV: 8 in 2011, 1 in 2012. Brad: 1 in 1998, 1 in 2002.
  • thanks for the info anyway!

I downloaded the Zanzibar track off iTunes. It's bizarre. As most hidden tracks go. $.99, so what the hell, eh?

I bought Apple used, just because! I'm a weird collector like that, but I'm not sure there's any reason to.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • is there anything special about the liner notes? book? how many pages?

  • The Apple cd liners are the lyrics and production notes, which you find on the 2cd as well. It's just laid out differently and is more stylized than the 2cd version. When it's folded open, the reverse side is like a poster.

I have the Shine EP on vinyl, and I don't recall a hidden track. But let me know...if there is one, maybe I'll pick up the cd as well!

  • you can buy the hidden track (it's at the end of Capricorn Sister) on iTunes on the Shine EP. And yes, it's also on the cd apparently.

J, "Zanzibar" isn't on the vinyl of 'Shine', just the CD.

Is this true? That Zanzibar is on Capricorn Sister on itunes (with a time of 5:58 as opposed to the other version times at 4:19)? Can anyone confirm before I buy it?
EDIT: ah ha. Indeed it is. :)
