I know there is a lot of info going around about the Roo this year. I need some help please.

I have a huge work meeting in Chicago starting on Monday afternoon. What I am wondering is will I be able to get the hell out of Bonnaroo, to the airport and fly to Chicago in time. So basically if I want to take the first flight out on Monday morning can I make it.

Do we have any clue what night they are playing yet?

  • I can pretty much bet my life on them playing Saturday night. Jack Johnson's site reportedly shows them as being slated for Sunday, and Metallica is supposed to be Friday. Last year I believe people started spilling outta there Sunday night, and it happened gradually throughout the night. When we awoke at 9 a.m. or so, probably 2/3 of the people had all but vanished. I can't speak for every exit though, as to how long it will really take to get out of there. By the time we said goodbyes to the friendly folk we met from western NC, packed our shit, it was probably 10ish, and it didn't take too long getting back to the I-24 (half an hour max? I honestly can't recall precisely).

So if you bring a car in can you leave Sunday afternoon or do you have to wait until Sunday night?

So you think a Sunday afternoon exit is possible? That is fine as long as I can be in Chicago by Monday afternoon. Big brother would frown upon the festival going rock girl rolling up late.

Yes you can get out on Sunday afternoon. Just make sure to talk to your neighbours and see when they are leaving - many people have to leave on Sunday afternoon for long drives home to be at work on Monday morning. Almost half of the cars around us had left my 5pm on Sunday and we had no problem getting out.

If you don't have a car then you can leave whenever you want :)

One more thing, anyone know how bad the airport is on Sun/Mon? I remember trying to get out of O'Hare after Lolla and that was hell. (Except for those of us sharing a Starbucks with McCready)
  • Yeah, I imagine most, if not all, Rooers will be a rather agreeable bunch.

However, as wickedmonkeyz said, you can pretty wind up being wedged in the middle of quite a clusterfuck of cars. Damn, I'm trying to bring the aerial photos from last year's festival to show you what it's like with the rows of cars being packed in so tight, but the site is probably pretty busy. My guess is if you were to show up late on the Thursday (you'd miss out on a lot of the acts that late afternoon/early evening), that you'll wind up near the outer edge of the campsite, making an early getaway more feasible.

Does outer edge = a 2 mile hike to the stages?
  • That's awesome about the chillin' with Mike.

By the way, I think that's totally awesome that you're willing to do whatever's necessary to make it happen, despite having shitty work to return to the next day. So many others are bitching because of the heat, because it's a festival, etc etc.

not sure about 2 miles...but look at where I was in 2005 in relation to the stage, that year it was a good 25 minute walk, not something you want to be doing multiple times a day...it's a 750 acre site if that helps

Pearl Jam always comes first. I got to miss the entire June meeting last year because I did the Europe tour. 3 weeks of following your favorite band around another continent is so much better than 4 days of meetings. Getting goose bumps right now. I would drag my naked ass backward over two miles of broken glass to see them.

25 min walk doesn't seem too bad. It looks a lot farther. What about the other years- how long did it take you to get to the stages?

How important can the meeting be if you are waiting five months to attend. If it were really critical, wouldn't it be scheduled for this afternoon??

I say fuck the meeting, and go see PJ.
  • Worst case scenario, you could just get a hotel package, park at the hotel, and take the shuttle to/from the show. That way you wouldn't have to worry about getting parked in and can leave whenever you want.
Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash and I’m
delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.
