Native American legend has it...

...that hummingbirds were once flies--which somewhat explains their big attraction to sweet nectar and all that.

So what do you think spiders once were then?

or mosquitos? or any insect really?

or does anyone know more about Native American legends like this? I think I might read up on it--very interesting stuff.

I think native Americans told poetic stories to explain the world.
There's no need to take the ideas too literally... ;)

I know, but what if. Its fun to imagine it might have been very different thousands of years ago.

    Yes.

Why don't we try to think up stories for how things originated ourselves?

For example, I've wondered about those plants with giant leaves here in Florida. Do you think they are from the period when the dinosaurs lived? Do you thinkeverything was giant-sized back then? :geek:

  • So, I got this story off the back of a wine bottle. Pelee Island Winery's semi-sweet Merlot from Ontario, Canada. But I can't find our corkscrew! must've gotten misplaced in the move.

    It reads on the back:

    The Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

Native American legend has it that hummingbirds are flies that were transformed into birds by the Sun Father. This particular hummingbird can be best observed on Pelee Island in May or September. Just as the hummingbird searches for sweet nectar, Pelee Island Winery searched its vineyards for the very finest Merlot grapes to produce this sweet wine. It's plum, black cherry and berry flavours are anchored by a smooth succulent finish.

    yum. :D

    Anyone else tried it?

Not that particular brand, but I like Merlot. :D

How about we think up a story about floating? Maybe people could float when the invisible hand of Wind and Warm Air lifts them up?! ;)

I like this idea of inventing explanations. :)

That would be so cool. :ugeek: You should take some pictures of those leaves and post em on here. Do you think that all the lizards are really little shrunken dinosaurs? hehe

yeah, seems like a good idea for a story. maybe they were able to do that back then, eh? semi-control the elements and what not--like superheros.

:D maybe they were punished by a sun god for eternity or something. poor little guys, trying to scare the other bigger animals.

Maybe we should write a story together sometime, justam. when we're both not too busy playing mom and house.

I can picture the charm, the warm night, the stars, it all led to this magical thinking.

Oh, I know how people can get. They get warm and they see visions. They start to think in magical ways... My dad's family was like that. Too much charm for the average collection. ;)

Native American creation stories, etc. are wonderful. Different 'people' will have different stories and characters but all equally interesting.
