I believe real change starts with education ... the corporations and gov't can't do the things they do if the public is educated ...

No, it's very easy to change the government: They're called elections. What we really need to change are the voters who keep sending these chuckleheads to Washington.

There should be some sort of competency test before people are allowed to vote.

It funny though...almost everyone would say that congress is not good...right? Yet, it must always be the other guy's congressman/woman that is terrible because everyone keeps voting in the same idiots.

I really think we need term limits. 12 years is long enough for anyone to spend in congress.

couldn't agree more...NO ONE should be able to make a career out of elected office. They need to live in the world they help create.

i would substitute idiots with crooks ...

i wonder if term limits would solve it but it would at least be a start!

don't kid your selfs..money and power are the big influence in any government, remember the "golden rule".
it does not matter who we vote for in most cases because money and power will always corrupt and those that don't play along don't last..it's the law of the law of the jungle.

Looks like a good documentary. But the problem is public education. As long as the No Child Left Behind Act is enforced (and it is), our children lose. It's why more parents are turning to private schools and home schooling.
  • Improve education...and everything else will improve as well.

I couldn't agree more. Every topic boils down to this. The public must FORCE accountability for democracy to function as intended. Pretty tough to hold elected officials and Corporate Boards accountable when you're not aware of what they're doing, or if you accept what they tell you they're doing, as truth. Government+corps+media = 1.
Money and power would not corrupt if corruption lead to pitchforks at the door.

my experience has been that home schooling usually has less to do with education and more to do with religious indoctrination.

that being said, I think we spend way too much $$$ trying to bring poor performing students up to average level and not nearly enough $$$ nurturing gifted and advanced students. that's the real waste to society. By trying to make everyone equal we've brought the best and the brightest down to the level of the rest of society. and that's a crime.

Amen. I think 8 years is long enough. My plan:

    President - 2 terms, 4 yrs ea.

    Senate - 2 terms, 6 yr ea.

    Congress - 2 terms, 4 yr ea.

Supreme Ct. Justice - 1 term, 10 yr ea.
