Not into Kid Cudi. In fact, most rappers aren't that great today. Only great one's are Jay Z and Eminem. Great lyricists.

When I was a teenager, I did not like rap...but I am more into it now. But very similarly to rock music, most of what I listen to isn't what it is dominating the radio.
My favorite is The Roots by a very large margin. Best live rap act I've seen, and honestly better than just about any rock group live as well (the only exceptions being my personal live preferences for Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen). I mean, talk about a band with some seriously great chemistry on stage...simply amazing to see (I've seen them live I think 7 times).
Add to that they have 2 albums out this year that I would put in the top 5 for the year no question (How I Got Over, and Wake Up w/John Legend). I can't say enough great things about them.
Hip hop and rap generally probably got me through the early to mid 2000s, with Blackalicious, Jurassic 5, The Roots, and Michael Franti & Spearhead (when they were doing that) as the stallwarts. Rock had been pretty much dead, with everyone looking to be the next Radiohead or indie-pop sensation, and rap/hip hop had a great below the surface atmosphere that was creative, exciting, and frankly more interesting.
Back in the day several of my buddies loved all the Master P related crap which drove me insane!
Make 'em say UHHHHHHH!
I did enjoy Outkast's work from that period and I believe no one will ever be able to match Tupac's lyrical abilities. Now that guy was good. Public Enemy ranks #2 as far as rap.
I even enjoyed most of Biggie's stuff and can respect the likes of Jay Z and Eminem nowadays, but I still have no interest in listening to any of it on a regular basis.
I've owned one rap album in my life aside from the Beastie Boys and that was Tupac's Makaveli. That is one bad ass album
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

Can't say I'm a Kid Cudi fan, but interesting you posted this cause yesterday my friend was talking to me about how she isn't a rap fan, but loves Kid Cudi!

I'm partial to west coast rap. Tupac, Dre, Snoop. Death Row records was the shit back in the day. I used to think that was so cool. Particularly Dre and Pac in the "California Love" video and Snoop and Pac in the "2 of Americaz Most Wanted" video. I did go through a little phase where I was infatuated with Wu-Tang and the RZA's beats, but that didn't last too long. I rarely listen to rap anymore but when I do, it's usually stuff like "To Live and Die in LA" and "Dear Mama". Love Tupac.

i havent heard kid cudi but he's all over the magazines right now. I dont listen to rap or hip hop much anymore but went through a phase as do a lot of people. My favorite rap artists from past and present are: Outkast, Goodie Mob, 8Ball & MGJ, UGK, Tupac, Biggie, some Wu-tang, The Roots, Common, Dr Dre, NWA, Public Enemy, Jurassic 5 (especially Chali 2na), Eminem (mostly his older stuff), PA, Jay Z, & snoop. Plus, Bone Thugz N Harmony's debut album was pretty flawless.

Rap is not what it used to be back in the day....
Dre, Pac, Snoop, Biggie, Wu-Tang and their spin offs - Ghostface, Inspectah Deck, Method Man, Eminem was good I thought when he first came out and all of the other classics that have been mentioned that escape me right now.
As I have aged, I realize that I am not packin heat, killin' niggas, hittin' bitches, rollin in phat stacks of cash or rollin on dubs. Tho I still hold a special place in my heart for all of that good stuff that was the 90's the newer "popular" rap just doesnt do it for me...Lil Weezy?? Really?? Have you heard this guy's voice??
Anywho...to each his own
Rap I listen to now on a regular basis includes (aside from the random flashbacks to aforementioned 90's rap)
Jurassic 5 - the most underrated rap "band" in recent history
DJ Numark & Cut Chemist - not really rap..just beats - (two DJ's from Jurassic 5)
Talib Qweli - one of the most underrated rappers in recent history
Mos Def/Talib Qweli = Black Star
DJ Hi-Tek
Pharoahe Monch - saw him at Lupos in RI w/ J5 & Talib Qweli - he stole the show and tore the roof off!!
Common - tho I feel he is on a steady decline
Gangstarr - (RIP Guru) - old school that is still good due to badass DJ Premiere!!!

Kid Cudi is great-I don't know what all these people on here are on about. He's original and dark. He's taking rap exactly in the right direction. Of course hip hop isn't what it was because the "street" discourse of the 80s and 90s is largely irrelevant. Most rappers come from at least lower middle class backgrounds and certainly most of their fan base comes from this socio-economic group as well. Kid Cudi is just picking up where QTIP and Tribe left off. Sure he has some jiggy shit, but he has also talks some real truth. And man it's just SO dark-you gotta love that stuff.

Cool that someone here agrees. It is a little dark, but its also just chill laid back hip-hop. I also like his voice, its not all "in your face" like every other rapper.
So i was watching Run's House and decided to go to Wiki and see what they are up to now. Well apparently Diggy Simmons (The middle brother) has a mixtape out. Checked some of his stuff on youtube, not too bad. Plus he never noticed but he's in that new At & T commercial where he's on top of a building. Sounds better than his older brother's stuff, IMO (Team Blackout). Not better than Run DMC of course
