Going to New York for the First Time!!!

First of all I hope all New Yorkers can get tickets because I know how frustrating it is trying to get tickets to a show that are in in high demand. (I live in Santa Barbara).
I am soooooooo stoked I'm going to MSG 2. Where are some good hotels my girl and I should stay at. We are both working so we can spend 200 to 300 a night if need be. Also any good restaurant and pre-party locations for the show.
I just want to have the best vacation to New York possible.
Any insight for this Cali kid would be appreciated.

2000: Memphis
2003: Little Rock, Kansas City
2006: Denver I & II, LA I & II
2008: MSG I & II, Hartford
2010: Kansas City
2011: PJ20 1 & 2
2012: Pensacola
2013: Chicago
This will be my 3rd time visiting NYC. Hubby and I are lucky enough to have tickets to both shows (he actually ran a victory lap outside our house when I bought the tickets....)
Anyway, hotels.com are very good for finding a hotel to suit your budget. Plenty of decent ones nearby in Midtown. Times Square is a short walk from MSG (well, about half a mile or so..) with plenty of eateries which are very reasonably priced as well as a few bars and pubs off Broadway. On our first visit there, we had a Rough Guide and Lonely Planet guide to NYC which was packed full of info to keep us amused for a good few days at a time.
Am I the only Welsh person here?
Ydych i'n siarad Cymraeg?
High Five.
I want to do all the touresty shit of course but I also want insight on places I HAVE to eat at. And some cool bars by MSG.
I also want to stay near Times Square if its humanly and financially possible.

Dido!!!
Hubby's brother lives just outside of New Haven so we'll be staying there and commuting back and forth both days of the shows. We will probably come into town early both days though so we can see stuff. Man I can't wait to see the NYC skyline!
