Gun ownership at an all-time high as people rushed out to stock up, now violent crime is at a 35 year low. No real surprise to me.

So with this formula of gun ownership and The President...if more Americans owned a gun we would virtually elinminate crime from this country. That appears to be a good thing but why do I feel there's a disaster waiting to happen with more and more guns in every American's hands.

Taking two facts and piecing them together doesn't mean they're related.

    CONservative governMENt

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

    Yes it does.
I've been wearing the same belt for the last 2 years, and crime has gone down nationally.
I've also been wearing pants for the last 3 years, and I still have the same job!!!!

  • are there any statistics to say if death by firearms has actually decreased or increased as i couldn't see any on the link?

seems an important stat to leave off.
  • People buying guns in droves because Obama is going to outlaw them = one of the countless "boy cried wolf" things that right wing radio has drummed up that none of their followers care to call them on when it doesn't happen.

I just can't figure out how every time we turn around, there is some immediate issue that will take away our freedoms or destroy our country etc etc etc, that never pan out, but the listeners keep falling for the next one and the next one...

anyway, I see this as a good thing...
  • Hey you know me, I am all for gun ownership. I own many guns, for safety and as a hobby.
Rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it I always say.
Think about this, you cant stop illegal guns from getting into the wrong hands really, so wouldnt you rather have one also to keep it an even playing field?
I remember reading that in states where you are allowed to carry a hand gun like Texas, the crime numbers are much lower then others....I wonder how thrue that is.

The only way you can have my guns is if you pry them from my cold dead hands. :P

I've always wondered about this phrase... doesn't it mean the cops shot and killed you because you failed to comply?

Well, it may not prove that the guns have contributed to the low crime...But does this imply that more people owning guns didn't correlate to crime rising? hmmm :) If it had, I'm sure that everyone on the anti-gun side would be saying "it's the gun's fault"! Just got my CHL in the mail, btw!
