...of backspacer I can recall. It's been a while, but I remember most of the reviews being quite favorable. Interesting to revisit this after a while.

  • I think that the cheesy interactive thing breaking his comp set him in a bad mood from the beginning... but that's fair, isn't it?

I mean, I remember thinking I had pretty much wasted my time screwing around with the "interactive" thing too. In fact, I can barely remember anything about it other than being annoyed now that I try to reflect on it. That's a far different impression than I had when Ten or Vs. lured me in and slapped me upside the head... leaving me in awe. And honestly, plenty of their other albums hit me nicely out of the gate too.

I have to agree with a portion of the article that stated time hasn't been kind to their sound. I don't like the additions of Brendan over the top of the music nor hearing organs filling dead space where the band used to work in little pockets of magic. When I listen to Backspacer today it still feels fragmented, stitched and then covered over by non or pseudo-band members who don't have the same chemistry. There's some good music, buried, in there. Take it or leave, that's how I feel about Backspacer these days. I had fun trying to find where Tom stole all his pictures from though. Haha

This is the first review of Backspacer that I've read...Pretty sure that Conrad listened to the beginning of each song long enough to pick out the slow ones.

    why is this so bad

i thought he was honest and dead on with it. it's not a typical pj album where they did something ground breaking. it's a simple pop rock record that was done in 2 weeks.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

  • What review? He could've just paraphrased that down to " this album is ok".
