Dave Matthews - Wrigley Field

Okay, I can already hear the groans about this one but I had to make a few comments about this. I was at both DMB shows in Chicago over the weekend. Yes I've been into this band since the mid-90s and thought it would be cool to see them where my Cubbies play. You can't really compare a PJ show with a DMB show because the music is so different, but they both have amazing followings. I have to say that while the shows were fun, they were just NOTHING like a Pearl Jam concert. Yes I'm definitely biased but it's just the plain truth. First of all, a lot of DMB fans just irk the crap out of me. Second, the sets were very similar to what they've been playing all summer, with only a few surprises thrown in. They probably had about 15 songs on their setlist each night. I'm not complaining, but I know that if it were PJ playing Wrigley it'd be something amazingly special. Maybe for their 20th anniversary tour???? :D

Just a couple thoughts I had to get out!

  • Can you compare the 2 shows? I was there Friday and it seemed from looking at the setlists that Friday was the more mellow of the 2 shows. (a little jealous you got Two Step and 41 on Saturday!)
    Good evening...

concerts at baseball stadiums make absolutely no sense. I saw The Police at Wrigley (free tix) and the setup was terrible. same thing as DMB--stage in center field.

I'm a lifelong Cubs fan but I'll take concerts at the UC over Wrigley any day!
Found: Soundgarden Hyde Park DVD (Thank you for the gift!)

I would definitely say that Saturday was the better and more up-tempo show, BUT on Friday he did Burning Down the House and Lying in the Hands of God which were amazing and not played on Sat. Overall though, I have to say I was disappointed with Sat's set too. Two Step & 41 were great, but I was also hoping for Warehouse or Drive In Drive Out.

Also, would never go to a concert at baseball stadium again either!!!

  • I went on Saturday night and had a great time. I actually thought Wrigley Field made a decent concert venue. The sound was great from where I was sitting (about five rows behind third base). I also saw them at Busch Stadium in 2008 and thought that set up was horrible. The sound sucked too. I thought the Wrigley Field set up was much better.

I also thought it was funny that the ladies who were using the men's restroom to pee because they didn't feel like waiting in the women's line.
