Create a Fantasy Band, and Rate the one above U

My inspiration for this thread and idea come from two very different places. I have been participating and enjoying immensely a thread started by Pandora called Rate The Song Above You....PJ or All in which you post a song off of youtube and the next person rates it and so on, has been a lot of fun remembering oldies/classics that you may have forgot and even found some new music that was not too bad. So w/ that format, and a fun twist on it, from all things past post Fantasy Football gatherings were we would sit around after draft was finished and talk trash & build our own draft/upcoming season up only slightly less than the number of beers we consumed. To the point, at one such gathering, we started discussing bands & specific members at specific instruments and w/o warning began a kind of fantasy Rock Band Draft, obviously it was just for fun and gave us another reason to keep drinking & talking trash, now about our favorite musicians!

OK, so here is my proposal for what I think could be a fun thread. Using the idea of post a fantasy band and next person rates, so one we would use the following format & Criteria:

1.List a band made up of following: 1 frontman, 2 guitarist, 1 bassist, 1 drummer and the option to add any one of the following; 2nd Vocalist, 3rd guitarist, 2nd drummer, a keyboard player or other instrument not mentioned i.e. Horn.

2.I would suggest we do it by genre or time frame, so we can do more than one band to keep it going for a while hopefully, but also feel free to do an All-Time band as well

3.After you post your band, make sure you rated the previous posters band, either by slot(instrument by instrument) or an overall score based on 1-10(10 being best)

Hope this is not too convoluted or Geeky, even if it is give me a first time New Topic exemption

I will it get it started w/ my ALL-TIME Southern Rock Fantasy Band

Vocals: Ronnie Van Zandt(LS)
#1 guitar: Duane Allman(AB)
#2 guitar: Allen Collins(LS)
Bassist: Berry Oakley(AB)
Drummer: A. Pyle(LS)

  • OK, I a going to give myself a 7 on that one a little heavy w/ Skynyrd & Allman Brothers, maybe this one will get somebodies attention!

I will call this one my Dream Team, or 5 individuals I personally enjoy watching perform based on whatever gets you off, for me I love entertainers who look like they are having fun and have that unique ability to include you and make you feel like they r speaking, singing or playing for me, even if you are in the upper deck or back of Arena!

    Frontman: Easy one,"Crazy" Eddie!
    Guitarist:Carlos Santana(in his prime)
    Guitarist:E. Van Halen(early 80's)
    Bassist: Steve Harris("up w/ the IRON'S Baby)
Drummer:Mick Fleetwood(in his drug feuled Prime, w/ those crazy faces & MAXIMUM Cow Bell!
This one is tough so many ways to go?
OK, since it is my thread I am expanding format:
    Option 1: 3rd Guitarist/Vocals: Jerry Cantrell
Option 2: 2nd Vocalsit, and I think she would sound so Great w/ Eddie I really would love to hear them do some songs together. Stevie Nick's! 8-)

  • Mine is twp new versions of the Willburys of two generations that I would kill to hear

    Old guys:

    Eddie Vedder
    Jeff Tweedy
    Thom Yorke
    Michael Stipe
    Bruce Springsteen

    Young guys:

    Ryan Adams
    Ray LaMontage
    Roddy Woomble
    Jim James
    AA Bondy

If I need a backing band for them. I'll go with:

    Bass: John Stirrat
    Lead guitar: Johnny Greenwood
    Drums: Matt Cameron
  • ^^^^^ You get a 10 even though you sorta broke the rules :D

Anyone who like Wilco and R.E.M. gets a high score from me!

    Anywho, here's my attempt:

    Vocals - Neko Case

    Guitar - Tom Morello

    Guitar - Peter Buck

    Bass - Geddy Lee

    Drums - Matt Cameron

    Keys - Trent Reznor

    Dean Martin
    Nat King Cole
    Chris Isaak
    Bobby Darin

    backing them up

Both "the Old Timers band" &"The Deceased Dixieland Band" are VG and took a lot of thought, I did not release how hard this was going to be when I started it. Both 10's especially The Old Timers Band, it is funny that they are old timers, but their music is still so relevant and listened to by so many, even younger generation who do not even know who they are listening to. I do not know how many times I have heard my daughter or one of her friends say hey who sings that song when I have Elvis playing or many others we would call oldies! :o

OK, I thought that I posted this last night, so I will try again: This is my version a previous poster's All-Time already deceased band. This one is veryb hard so I am going to break into 2 parts. Part 1 is 1980 and earlier and Part 2 is 1980 and later.

pre-1980 All-Time" Gone Too Soon Band"
Vocals: Tandum of Elvis & Ronnie Van Zant, obviously so many, way too early, but these two I miss the most .
    Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
    Guitar:Duane Allman
    Bass: Berry Oakley
    Drums:Keith Moon

Post-1980 All-Time "Wish You Were Here Band"
Vocals:Bon Scott, could easily be Freddy Mercury, or for me I miss Layne Staley the most by far
    Guitar:Randy Rhodes
    Guitars:Jerry Garcia
    Bass:"The OX" John Entwistle
    Drums:John Bonham
    Keyboards: Richard Wright

Again my list are based on my preference, but I try be fair and realistic, and I think that I did that with these two masterpieces!

    I

RULES, we don't need any stinking RULES! LOVE the name" 5 Crooners Dead or Alive" +8 for name alone +90 for talent, but unfortunetly I must assess a penalty for breaking format rule to maintain fairness and keep order on this thread. So with your penalty of -88 points + your total score of 98, you end up with a 10, so sorry, but rules are rules

I am also penalizing myself for being a total "Redneck"and I am wearing it proudly. When I first saw Bud Powell, figured you mistakenly wrote Bud meaning the late Billy Powell of Lynyrd Skynyrd it was my wife's prompting that the name Bud Powell really may be "Bud Powell" and not Billly RIP.Wow [p really showed my musical diversity with this one! I just figured since evry band I created so far has had an original LS member, everyones list would have one, pure genius

OK let me redeem myself: All-Female Rockers
    Vocals: S.Nicks

    Guitar: Lita Ford

Bud Powell was before your fellas time I think, he passed in 66, at the young age of 42
He was a jazz pianist into the be bop thing.
My Dad had a Dixieland Band back in the 20's and 30's, Red Billings & His Five Shillings.
I grew up listening to awesome music and him playing the piano and brushes on the little drum he had, he was the drummer in the band.
Playing in my house was a lot of Big Band, Louie A, The Rat Pack, Liberace, Peggy Lee and Bing.

    I like your thread 8-)

Not bad I would say 8, nice diversity form Plant & Geezer to Chad Smith of RHCP, Mike Campbell good player, not that familar, other than just know there name of Black Keys, but good solid group!

This one is my All-Time Eddie/Pearl Jam Collaboration Band
(made up of artist Eddie has Collaborated w/ over the years)
    Vocals:Eddie Vedder & Tom Petty(vocals & Guitar)
    Guitar&Vocals:Neil Young

    Guitar&Vocals:C. Cornell
    Bass&Vocals: Mike Watt
    Drums:Jack Irons
    Keyboards: Ray Manzarek

I know I am over my limit, but it was so hard to keep to a limit w/ this category, I had another 6 or 7 names that could have easily included(J.Cantrell, B.Harper,Steve "The Colonel" Cropper,N.Finn,P.Farrell,Ben Bridwell and on & on!) :D
    Hope you like it! :D

I don't care for Tom Petty, and Eddie Vedder is just OK>
I like Neil Young, but i think he's just an OK guitarist, though it works for him, and me.
    Can't go wrong with Pete.
I don't know alot of SG, but Chris Cornell is not bad.
Don't know Mike Watt. I've heard of the name, but not sure of his music.
Jack Irons is a good one.
    Ray Manzarek is alright too.

    I'll give that a 7.

I guess you could call this the ALL TIME partying/lunatic band>

    Jim Morrison-Vocals
    Chris Squirre-Bass
