should a family be able to file a law suit if the police kill a suspect while they are committing a crime and posing a threat to the police ?

I agree to a point but where do draw the line before they are frivolous law suits, I am not saying that this case is a frivolous suit at all but there are others that border reason.

But that is the main issue, no law suits are frivalous to those involved...the court draws the line with how it handles the cases by dismissing them, or finding for the defendants. The idea that we can pick and choose which law suits should even be bought to the court is not a good road to travel on. Unforunately you cannot legislate for stupidity or selfishness because the limits that would come from them would hurt people who have legitimte claims. Civil cases like this cost money, but i feel they would happen fewer and fewer times if municipalities went to trial more often than settling.
Either way, this case seems justified and I hope the city supports the police officers instead of simply settling
