It would be nice if Muslim religious leaders around the world would unite and speak out publicly against these fanatics . . but they are probably scared they will be targeted next if they spoke up.

You don't pull on superman's cape.
You don't spit into the wind.
You don't pull the mask off the old lone ranger, and you don't draw cartoons of Mohammed. Mmm, mmm, mmm, yeah . . .

How many idiots were going to burn books?

How many idiots are willing to kill someone that draws a cartoon of a Mohammed?

Which is likely the bigger problem?

I'm surprized the cartoonist needed the FBI to tell her to take a low profile... kind of a no brainer after the conniption fit that was thrown after that Danish cartoon.

5 arrested in plot to attack prophet cartoon paper

Now is the time for Islamic leaders to speak up and stop this nonsense. I believe when Terry Jones was going to burn Korans, he had everyone from the Pope to the President begging him to reconsider.

Some on this board wonder how "Islamaphobia" grips this nation. When your common American sees a radical faction of a group try repeated attempts to kill people because of a cartoon stick figure, that sticks in their minds. If the Islamic community can't address this issue, how does one differentiate enemy from friend?

    you mean like this???

“We reject violence as a way to express discontent with what may be printed in a free press,” Bush said after meeting with the king. “I call upon the governments around the world to stop the violence, to be respectful, to protect property, protect the lives of innocent diplomats who are serving their countries overseas.”

Abdullah also made an appeal to both sides in the dispute.

“With all respect to press freedoms, obviously anything that vilifies the Prophet Muhammad ... or attacks Muslim sensibilities, I believe, needs to be condemned,” Abdullah said. He added that those who want to protest “should do it forthfully, articulately, express their views peacefully.

“When we see protests, when we see destruction, when we see violence — especially if it ends up taking the lives of innocent people, (it) is completely unacceptable.”’

Earlier, members of the Ulama Council — Afghanistan’s top Islamic organization — went on radio and television Wednesday to appeal for calm.

“Islam says it’s alright to demonstrate but not to resort to violence. This must stop,” said senior cleric Mohammed Usman, a council member. “We condemn the cartoons but this does not justify violence. These rioters are defaming the name of Islam.”
    don't compete; coexist

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama

He is still condemning the cartoon artist and his message for non-violence isn't being heard, apparently.
