I know a lot of people talk smack (pun intended) about Godsmack. I liked their first two, but then they lost me after the acoustic EP.

But have you taken a listen to Sully Erna's new solo album? It came out yesterday. It's surprising. Lots of tribal beats, he uses Lisa Guyer on several of the tracks for some backing vocals.

Check it out. It ain't your average nu-metal. There's actually some substance to this.

bought it yesterday (yes, I still buy CDs). I havent listened to the whole thing yet but what I heard was good. I actually really liked the acoustic EP but am not a big fan of their full electric albums--can only handle a couple songs at a time.

Buying CD's is still a great thing, I do all the time. Don't be ashamed my friend!

Haven't heard Sully's solo album but I did get it for free from work. I will be checking it out at some point. I also liked their acoustic EP as well!

I'm actually ashamed that I dont buy more but my current financial situation doesnt allow for it with a new business and all. I know its a dying format and will be gone soon, but that will be a sad, sad day for me.

I don't think the cd will ever fade away. If it does it will be a sad day for me as well. Would also put me out of a job as well :(

  • a buddy of mine who works for a music chain says their business is gearing up for the death of the cd within the next 2-3 years, going completely digital.

that will SUCK. I don't even like getting the booklets on iTunes. I need them in my hand, so I can read through them on the can.

That will suck a lot. I agree with you though, I need to have that thing in my hands. Sounds better than digital anyways, in my opinion.

what do you do? for certain areas, it might cause a spike in business because the CDs that are in circulation would become a commodity. I think certain (bigger) bands will continue to release CDs, but they will become like vinyl...all limited pressings and sold directly by the bands for die-hards only.

PS: sorry to hijack the thread.

I'll have to pick this one up! I did see Godsmack at a festival a few weeks ago, they always put on a really good show.

I am a die hard CD fan, I have an iPod, but all the music on it is from the CD collection, I have never bought anything from iTunes, I think it's a rip off. If CDs are supposedly dying, why is everybody putting out vinyl? I'll just start buying vinyl....I'm a big fan of album art, and that's my main motive to buy CDs!
