There are people who don't want to be short
and wear heels (like Prince) as if that does anything more
than hurt their legs and feet
There are women fighting with time and hanging on to youth with dyes,
surgery, and war paint.
Men wanting to be viewed as something other than themselves
Women talking forever about tomorrow and next year being more,
but it never comes.
lies to the outside world
lies to the inside mind
tell me, what's it all there for?
who in the world is really fooled?
why are any of the veils even necessary?
IS IT LACK OF LOVE?
for one's own, or another's, "shortcomings"
what about the people who love small people?
what about people who would rather age honestly?
what about people that don't worry about tomorrow because today is enough?
what about people who look their spouses in the eyes and love 'em warts and all?
It's so commonly seen--
people wanting to be loved for what they're not
or, people loving others if they'd only change
what about loving people for what they ARE today?
or, realizing that maybe you don't love this person
but actually you love what you'd want to mold him or her into?
what about wanting to be loved for one's real, unpainted, self?
and NOT for what one wants to be some vague day in the future?
WHERE DOES THE ENTIRE ILLUSION LIVE?
and w h y does it live?
at what point can people see each other
and themselves as they are
but still view themselves and their partners
as beautiful, lovable, GOOD today, now,
not in some far off day that's unlikely to come?
And, really, people don't change because someone else wants them to
they only change when it comes from inside themselves
and wear heels (like Prince) as if that does anything more
than hurt their legs and feet

to not question your government is unpatriotic."
