Hey There! I'm just wondering what the general opinion is of the "New" Alice In Chains live shows with the new singer... I have a chance to see them in the coming weeks but I'm skeptical, and although I do enjoy the new album, it feels like just another Jerry Cantrell solo album for the most part, but I'd hate to miss my chance to see them live this time around, seeing as I wasn't old enough to go in the early 90's... I just wanted to see what people had to say and if it's worth it or not. Thanks!

'New'? Duvall has been with AIC for four years now. How much longer will this 'new' thing go on for? Watch vids and make up your mind. AIC are great live and AIC is Jerry's band - quite obvious when Layne wasn't at his best (to say the least).

  • Went to see them in Sydney in 09.The whole crowd seemed unsure what to expect at first. However,by the end of the opening song the band had everyone going crazy! Great show! As Jerry said "It's not about replacing Layne, but, just enjoying playing those songs again for the fans".Enjoy! Can't wait until they come back to Oz.

  • I saw them in London in 2009 and they were awesome. Everyone had a great time. Go and see!

  • Saw AIC a few months ago in St Augustine Fl. They were great but it was kinda like watching a cover band. The lead singer sounded just so much like Layne that it gave me the creeps and I left the concert wishing I'd never attended it. Just my opinion.

  • I've seen them 3 times now with William singing, and I thought they rocked. My favorite was a tiny little theatre in Philly on South St in fall of 2009. The new stuff sounds great and the classics sound awesome as well. If you are a AIC fan, I suggest you go. At that show they played almost the whole Dirt album. I'm sure now, they are playing alot of the new album.
  • My 2 cents.. Saw them in Nashville in March this year.. So many of the songs were about Layne's personal pain and struggle.. Seeing someone all happy smiling and clapping his hands being a "Rock Star" to those lyrics was just odd and made me feel very uncomfortable.. Love Jerry and the guys, the new record is great, and I'm happy to see them working again, but some of those older songs need to rest with Layne..

And yes, this thread should be moved from the porch to other music..

I'm seeing the new AIC lineup next month in Vancouver. However William Duvall also played with Jerry Cantrell when he was doing solo tours. This one in particular, AC/DC and Cantrell both had shows the same night. We ducked out of AC/DC just before the encore to catch Jerry Cantrell (which i felt guilty about... so I went to see AC/DC in Edmonton last year and a Thunderstorm soaked everyone.. I figure the rock gods got even with me). Anyways we showed up a few songs into Cantrell's set and walking into the bar with No Excuses playing was pretty surreal. Duvall did a great job singing in Jerry's band, so I'm expecting his work with AIC to be similar.

"New" Alice In Chains sound great live. I saw them last March in Richmond, VA. They were amazing. You won't be disapointed.

I'd love to go see the but just Like Pearl Jam they haven't yet scheduled any Texas shows and who knows if they have plans to.
  • Saw them in St. Louis back in February and seeing them there again in October! Very good live act, Duvall brings it. Had great seats and good view, and forgot all about that 2 hour wait in the cold as soon as "All Secrets Known" began. You shouldn't be disappointed, the old material and new are just as good. Great experience!
Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?

I'll not lose my faith, it's an inside job today

St. Louis 5/4/10 Hope for many more!
  • AIC is not AIC without Layne

yeah I know. the last couple times we got them they headlined Buzzfest, I want to see them play a non festival show. The new album was really good. I enjoy it, and gave it a fair chance. I want to see them live.

The Buzzfest line ups were not that great, and I didn't feel like paying 50 bucks to see a bunch of bands that have like 1 or 2 hits. The 2nd Buzzfest they did, I already had tix to see Tragically hip before Buzzfest was announced. Hopefully we get some shows soon.

  • I've seen them twice with Will as lead singer and they were amazing both times. The first time they were headlining, in a small theater, all GA. The floor was one big mosh pit and I was on the rail right in front of Jerry. One of the greatest concert experiences in my life.

Will is not Layne, and he doesn't try to be Layne. He's a great lead singer in his own right. This is still Jerry's band, like it always was.

  • Fuck any of the negative shit anyone tells you...i am one of the biggest AIC fans you will ever meet...with or without Layne...they put on a fucking awesome live show and Will is a perfect fit!

I saw them about 6 months ago @ the Orpheum in Boston and i am going to see them twice next week with the Deftones...i can't fucking wait!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

so if they are playing in your area, get your ass a ticket and go!! you will not be disappointed!!!
  • I've seen them 3 times now with Duvall and they've kicked ass every time; in fact, I would say they get tighter and tighter each time I see them. No bullshit, this is a band you HAVE to experience live.

I've been a huge AIC fan since the early 90's and Layne was always one of my favorite singers but I have no problem with Will taking his place. I'm glad AIC is continuing as they are one of the best rock bands EVER!

I couldn't agree with you more. Saw them about 5 times with Layne, and then saw them with William earlier this year. They put on a fucking fantastic show.
  • Saw them a few months ago at the Sound Academy in Toronto - holds a few thousand - and it was a great show...good mix of old and new material...Will isn't Layne nor is he trying to be...he sings well and plays well too...besides, Jerry is awesome on guitar, like a machine...seeing them again this Saturday in Toronto as well...can't wait - six rows back, not including the pit of course...

I was at that show in Richmond!! It was a great show. Ive been to 100's of concerts and that one is in the Top 5!! Songs I never thought I'd hear again live, it was great. Found a poster outside after the show.

For anyone who hasnt seen AIC either before OR after Layne, you need to get to a show!!!

I saw them last November. Awesome.

I , like most I'm sure, was a bit unsure about the 'new' AiC, but I was blown away!

Of course, William will never 'replace' Layne, but the guy's got something about him onstage, and I'm sure he'll come into his own more on the next album.

So, you should definitely check them out if you've got the chance.
