Sorry I havn't been in this area of the forum in a while its probably a repeat post but I just wanted to mention I will lose my Arcade Fire concert virginity at the end of the month and I think I'm more F'ING excited for this show than any of the Pearl Jam shows I went to in 2009 - well except maybe when I won the lottery at Vancouver '09 8-)

I have heard they are awesome live and I don't care if people find them pretentious or not I'm so so so excited for this show! Weee!

Should I not be?

    Pretentious ;)
    NERDS!
  • Quite possibly the best live band in the world right now. The only ones I've seen that are on the same level are Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and The White Stripes.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • saw them in Atlanta last month and i have to say its one of the best times ive ever had at a concert. Spoon just killed it as always.

One of my biggest regrets of the year- not seeing an MSG show.
    Still kick myself over that!

Have a blast, I hear only amazing things about their live shows!!

going to see them in dublin in december
  • I have seen them 5 times and will see them twice more in early October. Best live band on the planet. Every show is a stellar, religious experience.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Amazing band live. I've seen them twice. The first time was literally a week or two before they became HUGE. I still have my £7.50 ticket stub from the show in Manchester! Next time round, they played the MEN arena (20,000+ people) and tickets were the best part of £40.

The opening song from Funeral is still one of the greatest tracks ever. Enjoy!

Loved them when I saw them at Rock Werchter, they were sandwiched between Them Crooked Vultures and Pearl Jam. I wanted to see them in Manchester in December but I am seeing Frank Turner that night in Liverpool.

So the show was last night and was one of the most awesomest live experiences I've had. Ever.
They have so much energy and you can really tell they love what they're doing.

My only quam was the 2 song encore...the show felt a little short - but as do most shows if you compare them to Pearl Jam!

They are awesome and i'm glad you enjoyed it.

I saw them in atlanta in 2010, 2007 & 2005 all great shows. I admit like you though i thought they could have played a little longer on this tour. they do have three albums now, but I chalk it up to the time they do play they give their all and make it magical.

  • I saw them at Werchter and was bored stiff tbh, maybe it was because I was waiting for the best live band in the world to come on but every song seemed to sound the same.. i wish i could see what everyone else seems to see in them :?

I was so close to going to werchter but in the end couldn't afford it.
apart from not seeing my european friends missing AF was my biggest disappointment... not pearl jam if you can believe it! And a very seasoned pearl jam fan told me AF was better than PJ at that festival  ah damn. well at least i saw them on tuesday...

will NEVER miss the chance again to see a show in the future.
    REGINE FOR PM!

  • Saw them here in Winnipeg last week, it was absolutely incredible. People say that you need to see them live to fully appreciate their music, and now I see what they mean; even watching live videos of them gives you no sense of the real experience.

To anyone seeing them with GA floor seats, be sure to get there about a half hour at least before the opening band, I did and was about five feet from the rail the whole show.
    This is not for you...
Speaking as a child of the nineties
  • I havent fully researched their music but from what I've heard, I just dont get all the hype. Can someone recommend some of their fave arcade fire tunes so perhaps I can catch on? Felling a lil left out, but perhaps they're just not for me :? Kind of sound like they're trying to imitate radiohead/flaming lips. What am i missing?

All of Funeral is just phenomenal. Tunnels #1,#2, Une Annee Sans Lumiere,#3#,4 can't be topped. Crown of Love is a little bit of a stinker, but the second half brings me on the verge of tears almost every time. Windowsill, We Used to Wait, Ready to Start, Half Light 1&2, Sprawl 2, The Woodland National Anthem, Ocean of Noise, and Antichrist Television Blues are all amazing. I was a little worried that after the release of Neon Bible, they'd keep releasing sub par records (Ya, not really a fan of Neon Bible) but The Suburbs proved to me that they can still write some fucking amazing songs.

Ha, I was there too! I really liked how they did half of the MTS centre as a set up for the show. Amazing sound, from an amazing band in a great, semi-intimate venue.
  • i saw them live in 2007 and from 2007 to 2010 it was my favorite show of all time. you have to see them live to appreciate it. the way they interact with the crowd and the way the crowd gives it back to them is a sight to behold. its the way live shows should go.

i saw them a few weeks back, in 2010, and things have changed. crowds have gotten bigger. they are playing bigger arenas and they are more popular. hell they had the number one album in the world a few weeks back,

what hasnt changed is their live show. in fact against all odds the damn thing has gotten better, which is SCARY! The live show is easily one of the most cathartic experiences of my life. i was sixth row center at the show i went to, and the people around me were singing every word to EVERY song, and YELLING IT too, not just singing along to the songs like Wake up or something.

Their live show has perfect sequencing as well. i think at the show i went to they went from power out to rebellion, to wake up, i think. thats some insane sequencing there folks!

anyways, to YELL the words to Wake up, at an AF show is one of my favorite things ever, and to do it with thousands of other folks is a religious experience.

I ranted and raved about seeing AF in 2007, and it was a live show experience i lived off for 3 years. the show i saw in 2010 is no different. i already have withdrawal, i miss them and i miss that feeling i had after the show.

They are the best live band on the planet.

Just listen to Funeral (or even Neon Bible for that matter, but I suggest Funeral). I'm an album, not a song guy, so to recommend specific songs would be heresy against myself.....is that possible?

As for trying to imitate Radiohead (which nobody should EVER try to imitate) or the Flaming Lips, I don't see it.

    Enjoy

It's ok, I know some people who just don't really get it either... of course it won't be for everyone.
But if you want to explore a bit, my favs are:

    SUBURBS:
Sprawl II, Month of May, City With No Children, Wasted Hours, Rococo

    NEON BIBLE:
(antichrist television blues), Intervention, The Well and the Lighthouse, My Body is a Cage

    FUNERAL
Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), Haiti, Rebellion (Lies)

You should also check out some of their live stuff on youtube! :)

    Heck yes :)
And like I said, one of the things I LOVE about their live show, is they really really really LOOK like they want to be there, like they're having a great time, they're just one giant machine of awesome... and they look like they enjoy every bit of it.
