Dream Theater drummer quits band

I'm not a fan of DT, so I wasn't aware of this news, but I friend of mine was pretty devastated yesterday upon hearing this. And I later found out that many DT fans were on the verge of jumping off a building. The thing that gets me is that he is leaving a pretty respected prog rock band for Avenged Sevenfold. Avenged Sevenfold! That horrible pop metal band that teenagers listen to. What a career shift!

Anyone else upset over this?

    I'm not so sure about the Avenged Sevenfold comment. I mean yeah, they suck, but I thought he only filled in for a tour while they found someone else. I don't believe that he is their new permanent drummer.

    I mean he wanted to stay in Dream Theater but none of the other guys were willing to take a break. I could see him re-joining down the line assuming they all continue on.

    Wow...That must be devastating for Dream Theatre fans.

    Seriously...I bet you've never met anyone who claims to be just kinda sorta into Dream Theatre...they're all batshit crazy diehards.

    I imagine Porcupine Tree or Coheed and Cambria are somewhere writing an epic sprawling space prog album about this tragedy.
