Interpol's new album

I'm on my second listen and my opinion hasn't changed much since the first listen. This is a C- at best. The first half is definitely better than the second half. With the second just too slow and boring for my tastes. There are no really catchy songs at all like on Antics and no truly musical masterpieces like on TOTBL. The two best songs are Lights and Barricade. And I didn't even like Lights when they first released it months ago. So that really says a lot about the quality of this album. I think this album was hyped like it was a return to their TOTBL sound but they failed miserably. I have tickets to see them at the end of Oct and maybe after hearing these songs live, I might like them more but I'm pretty disappointed.

Listening to Interpol may have actually given me a better appreciation for OLTA which I thought was subpar too.

I've only heard it twice so it's too early to judge but I think 'Lights' is as good as anything they've ever done...not saying it's my favorite Interpol song but I think it compares well with their best tracks. 'Barricade' is a good song but the rest has not really made an impression yet.

I think OLTA is very underrated though. This album receives a ton of hate but I think it's pretty good. Sure it's no TOTBL but it's still a very good album. 'Pace is the Trick' is one of the best songs they've ever made.
  • Agreed, really disappointed. Seeing them Nov. 1st, hope it's heavy on TotBL and Antics.

Tracks 1-5 are good. Tracks 6-10 are snoozers. Thus it's a pretty good EP.
