Your favourite bootleg? I guess I have to choose Santiago, Chile 2005. Great setlist and the sound is amazing.

My Favorite RIGHT NOW would have to be...
The first show from The Gorge - September 1 2005.
I keep going back to this boot because the sound is AMAZING, and this is one of only 3 shows ever to have both of my favorite songs in the setlist, Crown of Thorns & Love Boat Captain.
Plus the version of Crazy Mary is GREAT!!!
And to top it off...It's hilarious the way Eddie gets the crowd to try and get Tom Petty to come down from his hotel room and play with the band!!!
    Hello Tom...Come down Tom!!! :ugeek:

which night? I forget which night it is but there's an improv that is way cool. Like the audience is involved. Pretty rare to get that = where the audience is part songwriter!

(When I bought Backspacer I chose a Chile show and it is pretty great, and includes what I mention. But the setlist doesn't match what the tour section says here. I think they simply wrote the wrong date. Whomever put together the "2 Boots for Free with purchase Backspacer" thing.)

Anyway mine would maybe be Atlanta 94.

the 2005 south american shows are simply phenomenal.. I would say many of those setlists are full of classic hit songs that get played every night, but it's the band's energy and raw power to make them really special, along for sure with the HUGE partecipation of the crowd, those south american fans are crazy
I suggest to search for the dvd's of santiago both nights (22 and 23 november), and the 26th november buenos aires dvd, all are proshot and great quality
  • My top 5 are (in no certain order):

    4/3/94 - Atlanta
    3/5/98 - Melbourne
    10/30/09 - Philly
    8/7/00 - Atlanta
    7/11/95 - Chicago

    Honorable Mention:

6/24/95 - San Francisco (AKA Neil Jam)

  • Not suggesting it's the best ever, but a really great bootleg for the sake of this conversation:

3/2/92 Den Haag. A rockin' set on 1 disc. A beautiful Oceans opens. Alone is always great to hear. An amazing version of Suggestion. Stone & Mike sing a couple of lines of Bohemian Rhapsody - hilarious. Porch is my favorite PJ song and this is one hell of a version. They tear it up on Leash and end with I've Got A Feeling. Great intensity, the sound quality is really good too. I love this boot.

"What can you expect when you're on top? You know? It's like Napoleon. When he was the king, you know, people were just constantly trying to conquer him, you know, in the Roman Empire. So, it's history repeating itself all over again."
  • but the correct answer is 3/29/94...

03/29/94 – Bayfront Arena: St. Petersburg, FL [120m]
    support act: King’s X
set: Rearviewmirror, Whipping, Go, Animal, Dissident, Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, Glorified G, Daughter/(ABitW-II)/(WMA), Blood, Last Exit, Black, Alive, Porch/(Dirty Frank)
enc 1: Sonic Reducer, Not for You, Elderly Woman, Rockin’ in the Free World
    enc 2: Indifference
enc 3: Throw Your Arms Around Me

Best Porch ever. Amazing setlist flow with the opening four songs really bringing the energy. If you haven't heard this for some reason please do yourself a favor. I miss the days of crazy energy and when Ed could actually sing!

I really enjoy Santa Barbara 2006 because I love the acoustic stuff.

Boston 2010 was the greatest show I have ever been to in person so that one gets played a lot, too.

  • How about Torino, Italy (9.19.06), that's a pretty good boot too. The whole "Avocado" album played live from start to finish. I posted this show on my blog if anybody wants it.

  • I'm not sure if it is the greatest, but it is certainly great, and not very often mentioned. My vote goes to Salzburg 06/18/00. The main set is spectacular with the version of Daughter as the crown jewel.

I haven't thought of that one, I'll have to give it a listen. If anybody else is interested in listening to it, then you can find it here:
