PJ vinyl repair advice for Dillsnufus

Some may recall, I held that "contest that no one knew they were entering" for the Vitalogy vinyl. Turns out I had never played it, assuming it was good quality because the eBay auction I got it off stated it was mint playing (yes, naive in hindsight). Dillsnufus won the draw, and he got it but says it skips lots. My complete and utter embarassment aside, I'm asking for help in helping him maybe repair it.

Anyone?

Have you tried adjusting your tracking force?

    ?
  • Aound 97, 98 I began collecting vinyl and I purchased a copy of Vitalogy. Got home and played it on my friends hi fi. Skipped. I was furious. Broke it. Bought a new copy. Took it home and played it. Skipped. Went berserk. Years later I bought my own turntable with decent needle. Never had a problem. It may be your set up. Maybe. Just my two cents. :D

Usually there would be a knob or other mechanism on the tone arm that allows the force being exerted by the needle to be varied. Try upping it a little (so the needle presses harder), it might help the needle hold the groove better. We're still only talking a couple of grams or so force anyway, not enough to overly damage a record.
  • I bought one of these yesterday. This will help if you have an extra $350 lying around:
