Is/has anyone seen The Black Keys on their current tour? I'd love to hear some feedback. I know the reviews for their opening gig with PJ were pretty good, but I love their stuff and am desperate to see them do their own show (rather than opening for another band).

They're playing Asheville, NC on September 14 and I want to hit that show up, but it is sold out. If anyone has a couple of extras, can you PM me?

  • Great band for sure. I've only watched their dvds, but they should be great live based on those.
Actually, me and a buddy are going to see them opening for Kings of Leon on the 20th and the Keys are the reason we are going....The Whigs will also be there. I had rather have four hours of the Keys and Whigs without KoL (since they became pretty boys) honestly but I'm excited to be able to see the Keys even in an opening slot
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

Saw them at the Ryman a few weeks ago. It was awesome. The opening act was painful to say the least. Great energy played as a 2 piece for all but about 4 tracks. However PJ spoils us as they only played about 90 min.

    Well worth it though.

I've seen them something like 7 times in various formats (opening for Pearl Jam, at Lollapalooza, at Roots Picnic, and the rest as the headlinging band in either a small venue like Terminal 5, or Central Park Summerstage), and in various places - New York, Chicago, Philadelphia...and they are awesome live. Definitely worth checking out if you can manage either to get tickets online or through stubhub or something.
  • CAme across this today...good stuff

I'm thinking of checking out a KOL show for this very same reason. I must see the Keys soon...

  • they play with a backing band on the newer songs. i'm not a huge fan of the new album; it's good but it doesn't have the classic black keys blues feel. so the new songs sound good, but when its just dan and patrick up there, it's unreal.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

I ended up going to the KOL show last night and saw the Whigs (who were definitely worth seeing) and the Black Keys.

The Black Keys were amazing...I recommend seeing them to anyone. They play right on the rugged, jagged edge. The guitar soars higher and the drums pound more heavily in person than can be heard on the album. It's music with soul that deserve to be heard by everyone. Even the folks who showed up to see KOL from the lawn seats around us were talking about how great these guys were. Can't imagine they'll be openers for too many more tours.

The Kings of Leon were actually good as well. Enjoyable show. You probably won't get the same feeling you get at a PJ show, but I had a good time.

The Black Keys, though...damn. Two thumbs up.

Thanks to everyone who's shared thoughts/posts and links on this thread!
