Terror returns to West Bank: Two Israelis wounded after shots fired at their vehicle east of Ramallah Wednesday night. Army spokesman: Victims managed to get out of vehicle, hid in nearby wadi before calling for help

Another shooting attack: An Israeli couple was wounded Wednesday night in a West Bank shooting attack after Palestinian terrorists opened fire at an Israeli vehicle traveling in the Ramallah area.

The shooting victims were identified as Jordan Rift Valley residents Shira and Moshe Morano.

Hamas' military wing, the Izz a-Din al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for Wednesday's shooting attack. Meanwhile, Palestinian Authority security forces continued a wave of arrests targeting Hamas members in the West Bank.

The two shooting victims in Wednesday's attack were a man, who sustained moderate wounds, and a woman, who was lightly hurt - both in their 30s. Magen David Adom officials said the wounded man sustained leg injuries, while the woman suffered from blows as result of the vehicle overturning.

Their vehicle, which was attacked between the communities of Rimonim and Kochav Hashachar on Route 60, turned over and landed in a ditch.

The latest attack follows a deadly shooting Tuesday that left four Israelis dead near Hebron

IDF Central Command Spokesman Peter Lerner, who arrived at the site of Wednesday's attack, said the shooting victims managed to get out of the vehicle and flee the scene.

"The wounded came out of the vehicle and ran away to the wadi, where they waited for fear that they would be killed," he said. "Later they climbed back and called for help…the army, Shin Bet, and police have launched an investigation into the incident, yet at this moment there are no leads."

The attackers apparently fired at the Israeli car from a passing vehicle, he said.

IDF troops were scouring the area and also searching for a suspicious vehicle seen at the site.

Palestinian security forces also launched an investigation into the attack.

A Palestinian security official told Ynet that the Palestinian Authority considered the attack a grave incident and blamed Hamas for "trying to return the West Bank into a state of anarchy, in order to thwart the political process."

The Palestinians said that PA security forces were deployed at all Ramallah-area roads in an effort to spot the suspicious vehicle pursued by the Israeli army. The IDF has sealed off all access routes to the city, PA officials said.

Following the attack, Palestinian security chiefs were scheduled to hold an emergency session Wednesday night. Prime Minister Salam Fayyad has ordered officials to take any steps necessary to curb Hamas' ability to carry out attacks.

Maybe if Israel ended the occupation of the West Bank... and Israeli settlers wished to immigrate to the West Bank... well, maybe this won't end this type of violence in the short term. But, it may provide a solution in the long run.

I believe the point that should be taken away here is that all of a sudden Hamas has resumed attacks at precisely the moment that peace talks have resumed, peace talks, let me remind you, that would lead to an end to the occupation should they prove successful. It really shouldn't be all that hard to see that Hamas is not only uninterested in the success of these talks, but is actively trying to undermine them through violence.

i strongly condemn the actions of hamas the last teo days. they are bitter about not being able to participate in the talks and they are frustrated because their voices are not being heard at the table of diplomacy, rather their voices are being heard in the streets, which will resonate with those in the streets that may not support abbas. but does anyone really think the occupation is going to stop? i am hopeful, but israel is going to have to evacuate the people living in those settlements and unfortunately i do not think netanyahu would ever do that...

If I understand the peace talks correctly, this will be a series of three meetings over several months?

I know the whole conflict and history is messy with varying opinions (to put it lightly), but one of the few things that seems clear to me is that Hamas wants to fight. And there are conservative members of Israel that would like nothing more then to wipe them off the face of the earth. If I add that simple math together and put my Nostradamus hat on, I foresee the following within the next 15 days:

Hamas continues to push buttons and attack civilians
    Civilians fight back
Israeli tanks and dozers are sent into settlement areas to protect
Mortars and rockets are fired randomly by Hamas
    Israeli air strikes
    More rockets
    Israel tightens the blockade

Wait 2 years and repeat cycle.

That said, I pray that each side can somehow achieve peace.

The thing you need to remember is that the official goal of Hammas is the destruction of Israel. Chances are that even if they were invited to the peace talks, they would not show up. They are extremists just like Iran. A fitting comparison is that in international sporting events, Iranian athletes will refuse to participate if competing against an Israeli athlete. Hammas is pretty much in the same mind set as Iran as far as Israel is concerned. Therefore, there is nothing surprising about the timing of these attacks.

so a random shooting is now hamas' fault?

did they accept responsibility or is this a bunch of finger pointing?

the underlined sentence is very cynical thinking and is part of the overall problem. to think that you or anybody else would actually think that hamas would not show up to peace talks even if they were invited says a lot about you attitude towards the entire situation. hamas is very popular among many of the people. you don't think that these attacks are a giant "fuck you" to those holding talks for not inviting them? hamas has a lot of influence with the ordinary palestinians that do not support abbas. personally i think that any group that has any sort of popular support and influence should be at those talks and given the chance to speak, but hey that is just me...because if any group is excluded, any agreement made by the participating parties is automatically an illegitimate agreement....

the thing that often gets overlooked is that the Palestinians are under brutal occupation. Israel is not. the Palestinians have been dispossessed for sixty odd years, houses destroyed, communities wrecked, and thousands killed while Israel ignores international law, the Geneva Convention and many UN resolutions.

i don't get it. are people seriously that unaware of what really goes on there?

the reality is that there are not two equal sides facing off here. you have one of the strongest military powerhouses in the world, armed to the max with tanks, f16 fighter jets (the only country who has more of these jets is the US by the way), and advanced technology. they use this against an oppressed population who are living in the most densely populated area on earth, using old guns and home made primitive rockets. the Palestinians are caged in like animals. they have no where to go. they just can't pack up and leave and go somewhere else. they are not allowed to.

the Palestinians have been under Israeli occupation since 1967. if Israel is seriously interested in the peace and security of its people, they have to end the occupation.

and to refer to the article that the OP posted stating "Terror returns to the West Bank". are you kidding me? returns? what planet are the people that think that living on? Palestinians are terrorized every single day there.
