I really wish Travis Warren didn't leave. They were awesome. Saw them live a couple weeks before the initial split. I listen to For My Friends all the time. Great album.

Anyone else a fan of post-Hoon BM? Are there any b-sides in existence, or live tracks? I have heard of that 4-track ep Deep Cuts the record label put out, but anything else?

I'm a huge Blind Melon fan and I agree with you that Blind Melon's new music was pretty awesome with Travis. He's a bit of a douche though. I love For My Friends and still listen to it from time to time! I was really pissed off about the split because it came a week before I was going to see them live for the first time. I'm really hoping they find a new singer soon and get back on the road/in the studio.

I haven't heard of this 4 track Deep Cuts ep, could you pass some more info my way? I would love to hear some BM b-sides! As for live stuff, they have released a live album and have a few live tracks on their greatest hits album. The greatest hits album has "Soak the Sin" and "Deserted" as the live tracks. They do an awesome tease of Queens "Under Pressure" as the introduction to deserted. You should check it out!

Dude, I totally agree with you, I am a huge Blind Melon fan, and I was luck enough to get to see a free concert they did after putting out For My Friends, and got to meet the band... it was an awesome experience... and I even thanked Travis for what they were doing and complimented them on the new album... only months later for him to leave the band... I would love to hear any deep cuts or any other tracks that I may not have... From a collector, I got a copy of a Live Tour they did through Canada when Shannon was still alive... but outside of studio material, greatest hits, their live show in Chicago, School House Rocks, and their DVD's (Letters From a Porcupine is awesome!) -- I would love to get my hands on any other material they have... PM me and we can work out a way to exchange those deep cuts and I can get you some live shows if you'd like...

  • Deep Cuts was a digital release only:

I can't buy it because it's for American customers only.

    2X4 (demo)
    Wilt (demo)
    St Andrew's Fall (demo)
    Paper Scratcher (live acoustic)

I was more looking for b-sides or live stuff with Travis. I have lots of of their b-sides with Shannon.

  • I saw those guys in Ft. Lauderdale and it was an amazing show. They really killed it. The songs were sounding so good and crowd was small but loving every second. The band was rocking it and Travis sang his ass off. I thought Travis was a great fit and I am still bummed that things didn't work out. That said, For My Friends is still in my car on heavy rotation. Good songs never get old.

Travis will not be rejoining the group. They have had many issues with him and ultimatley decided to kick him out for good. They are currently searching and have asked people to send in videos of them singing BM songs. Lets hope they find a replacement soon!

Paul David, how did you access all of these b-sides from the early days?

Blind Melon is so fucking great, I hope they find a new singer soon. One of my favorite bands of all time, I always have Blind Melon close by. And now I am going to have even more to choose from . Thanks for the post! You made my day.

it's funny, Travis says he was fired, they say he quit out of lack of communication! usually the quit/fired argument goes the opposite way!

Internet, my good man. :D I'll check my pc when I get home and I'll pm you how to get them. I don't think there's a whole lot over and above what's been commercially released, but I'll look again.

Cool man, that would be wonderful! Im too lazy to search for these things

Blind Melon is an amazing band! Top 5 of all time for me. I hate how they are considered, and technically are, a one hit wonder when all of their other songs are so much better than "No Rain"

I also saw them with Travis and thought it was a great show and Travis definitely gave it his all. Also seemed so thankful to the crowd for coming out and giving their support and to the band for the chance. I was gutted when I heard of the split ... and then got hopeful when I heard he was doing the new years show.

Been quite awhile since the split and them asking for people to submit videos hasn't it (18months - 2 years??) ... still hopeful they manage to sort something out ... and yep I really liked For My Friends

I really liked the For My Friends album and I hope that's not the last we hear from Blind Melon. I always thought they should just get Brad Smith to sing for them. His Abandon Jalopy album is amazing and his voice is not that different to Shannon or Travis.

Yeah they were, can't believe I saw them. Travis was so like Shannon it was totally mad as who could have thought you could be like Shannon.

Shame the sound quality as the gig was dire but yeah is lame they broke up.

I went with my cousin. I was so totally blown away with the vocal similarity, I told her to close her eyes for a minute and just LISTEN.

BLEW HER MIND. It was surreal.

I actually just looked and have less than I thought I did. I think I may have had those on my old pc. These are the few that I have:

    Candy Says
    Out On The Tiles
    Three Is A Magic Number

And the few aforementioned live tracks from the greatest hits album. The No Rain (stripped away version) is fantastic. And as I said, I'm not a big fan of the original.

I was going to see Blind Melon in '95 at my sister's college, but then Shannon died a few months before that. Haven't heard the new "Blind Melon" though

Love Blind Melon, an ex boyfriend got me really into them in about '94, I'd only heard a couple of sings before that .
I often have Blind Melon days, and am sad I never got to see them either with Shannon or Travis. I have friends who saw them at Reading and said it was great.

I have the proper albums/official releases including a live one and a greatest hits, and some Shannon demo tracks his mum put on the net but never found much more than that...

Definitely one of my favourite bands. Soup is right up there with my favourite albums of all time.
Shannon will always be a legend in my eyes. Such charisma, and what a voice?!

I loved For My Friends, even though I admit I was apprehensive about Travis to start with! But I still enjoy listening to it now.

Be good if the guys could find a new singer & come up with some new material. Their talent is sorely missed in my opinion.

I agree with you. The guys really need to find a new singer soon. I was so excited when I heard they were putting an album out with Travis. Although I love For My Friends, it;s not my favorite Blind Melon album. The music is amazing and Travis has a great voice. The lyrics aren't nearly as good as what Shannon would write tho. Some of the lyrics on For My Friends I found a little cheesy at times. Other than that it's a fantastic album!
