Has any one heard about this mess!! A**holes ,Kings of Leon canceled their concert here in Pittsburgh on Sept 7 and Hershey on Sept 8, 9 days before the shows. All we got was a stupid F**ing one line e-mail. "Concert cancelled due to "SCHEDULING CONFLICT". Your refund should arrive in 7 to 10 days!!!! Not an explanation, no apology, no reschedule date and so far no refund. Just one line "F**K all of you" guys that have had tickets for 7 months, in an e-mail. What the hell kind of "scheduling conflict" cancels 2 shows less than 2 weeks before the show? I spent $350 and on plane fare for my daughter to fly in for the show for a big night out with a group of friends. And I am furious!!

I have been going to concerts for years, loved kings of leon and I have never seen anything this low or lame. Can you imagine PJ doing something this low? Or any other band with any class or that cares at all about the fans that put them where they are doing something like this? Never, They would never.

I remember why PJ is and always will be my favorite band when something like this happens, I appreciate their class and incredible attitude they show their fans more than ever. KOL is dead to me I will never spend another dime on those morons again.

The worst part is The Black Keys were the opener..aside from folks like you losing a lot of money of course.

these guys are lame. Can't wait to NOT buy their new album. Actually don't even listen to them anymore. Shame I wasted $40 on their CD's.

Edit: This is what happens when musicians get too cocky and think that they can do whatever they want and the fans will always be there. Hey KOL, you been hanging out with Axl Rose a bit lately?

  • See I am thinking poor ticket sales too. But I find that really hard to believe. I do not know what the number of tickets sold were, but I do know that last year they played here in Pittsburgh and sold out. And I know just from the buzz on the radio and around it seems quite a few people were going. ANd this is what make me so angry. What do they consider poor ticket sales? NOT sold out, only ? 10,000 tickets sold Are they so full of themselves that consider it not worth coming if it is not sold out? If that was the reason, they are truly idiots.

And I agree, part of the total bummer of missing this show, was missing the Black Keys. This is interesting, but I guess the Black Keys Facebook page was the first place that mention the cancellation. They said it was not their fault, but it was KOL and they apoligized.

I heard it was some TV related conflict. I'm guessing MTV VMA's since it's around that time.

Bands need to reschedule from time to time.

I remember having tickets to the Roots once and they had to cancel because Eminem wanted them to back him at the Grammy's.

The Roots came back, I used my same ticket and they played a fucking epic show (like usual)

    From MTV:
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the Best New Artist video through September 12.

They are not listed in the performers or presenters yet, but you could be right. I used to work for one of the major travelling wrestling promotions, and when a cancellation due to "scheduling conflicts" came up, that meant poor tickets sales. When they offer refunds without mentioning holding on to your ticket for a future show, that usually affirms that point. Sorry your show got cancelled.

this is exactly what I was talking about in the other thread where they stopped playing after a couple of songs because of the pigeon shit. People don't realize that yes, a ticket refund is nice - but what about everything else? Not everyone that goes to shows actually lives in that city! Really sorry to hear that your show was canceled

Cancellations are shitty, but they happen. Can't always blame the boys in the band.
  • they weren't sold out in Philly/Camden. they were offering an upgrade from lawn seats for $10 (which later went down to $5). The crowd that goes to see them now are really lame. Mostly college kids who sat in groups on the lawn and texted nonstop the whole time. The group in front of me took pictures the whole time (with the annoying cell phone light) and didn't get up until "sex on fire" (about 6 songs in), sang along and then left. The girl behind me was excitied about how good KOL was. That was until her boyfriend told her that it in fact, wasn't KOL, but she was watching the second opening band.

I have seen them several times and this time they seemed tired and just not wanting to be there. All there songs were sung at a much slower pace. It was wierd. As much as I like them, I didn't like that show... at all.

  • honestly, i'd be upset too, but you're getting a refund. shit happens, and no matter what we may speculate, we will never know the true cancellation reason. i think everybody needs to back the fuck off these guys today. they are not selling out and they are not assholes. pj went through all this exact same bullshit. i can't wait until years down the road when they're looked upon in a higher light and have a diverse set of albums. i want to be that true fan that stuck through and not the doucher who likes their first few albums and thought they lost it (like many morons say about pj).

"Woke up to the news that Kings of Leon had to cancel the St. Louis venue (that we played last week with Petty) due to a pigeon shitting in the bassist’s mouth. I saw Mike Campbell (from The Heartbreakers) collapse on stage in 100 degree heat, get carried off (still clutching his guitar) and come back on to FINISH THE SHOW.
That’s what you do. Kings of Leon walk off after three songs.
    What a bunch of pussies."

Cancelling this far in advance and not rescheduling means it is most likely poor ticket sales. Music is a business and it's better for them to cancel the show and give refunds than to play and end up losing money. I'm sure there's a break even point and by today they haven't made that on those shows and don't expect to. At least they gave some notice instead of waiting until the day before.

  • The band has been touring non stop since the release of the album in mid '08.

I can't stand by the short notice cancelation and the whole bird poop fiasco but.......dude's must be absolutely exhausted by now.

Yeah, it was ticket sales. I'm a Pittsburgh stagehand (I think the only time I ever post on this board is to give my "inside" scoop (I use this term loosely), or to give my set/album reviews), and they have been talking about cancelling this show for a few weeks now. Our Live Nation rep. said that it sold terribly, and at recent shows (Ozzfest, Toby Keith, STP) they were offering lawn tickets for as low as $10.00. Very few shows other than country or classic rock sell well in Pittsburgh. The last time KOL played (I think April 2009), they played at a local university that held around 7,000 and maybe only filled it up 3/4 of the way, but the night before they played the Air Canada Center in Toronto and sold it out.

    But regardless...Patterson Hood was right!
