I have a Takamine G series acoustic that is in need of a neck reset. The guitar was bought brand new at Guitar Center in 2001. I took it to a well known repair shop in my area and they told me my best bet was to take it back to GC to see if Takamine will replace the guitar.....they have a lifetime warranty on structural defects. Wondering if anyone out there has had any similar experiences at all and can share some advice or suggestions? The guitar is nearly 10 years old... used but definltey not abused and has never been modified in any way. Is it even possible that Takamine will warranty and replace a nearly 10yr old guitar?.....thanks

it sounds like a structural defect and if it is under warranty it should be covered no matter the age, as long as you did not get it wet and it bowed or something. that is the route i would go initially. all they can say is "no"...takamine has a great reputation so i am sure they stand by their products.

i had a similar situation with a black gibson les paul custom 5 years ago or so. i ordered it from gibson and the neck was twisted out of the box. i called and complained and i sent it back and they gave me an alpine white one ($250 more expensive) at no cost. they even paid for shipping of both guitars. so if a massively large company like gibson can do it, i am sure that a company with a great reputation like takamine will make it right by you. let us know what you find out.

  • So I sent my guitar back to Kaman Music (the Distrubutor) through Guitar Center....Kaman inspected my guitar and are going to replace it with a better model (EG334SC) as they no longer make the model I have.....The only catch is I have to pay a $150 "labor" fee....not a bad deal. Not exactly sure there was a lot of labor in looking at the guitar and deeming it defective!...but Oh well after almost 10 years, I get a brand new guitar that sells for over $600 for $150.
I guess the moral or lesson in this story is if buying a new guitar at GC, dont assume that because it's new and in the store that it's in perfect condition...Get a setup done before leaving the store!

that is good news. i am sure that that $150 must cover shipping and insurance and stuff. they probably figure that if they are giving you a better guitar you can at least pay to ship it lol...

i have my own guitar tech that takes care of the needs of my band, i suggest going to a mom and pop store for repairs and set ups and stuff. those small shop owners usually know more and do a better job than the guys at a big box store like guitar center. just my opinion though...glad it is gonna work out for ya.
