**Black Diamond: Give It Up For Matt and Mike**

LONGRDLONGRD Posts: 6,036
edited July 2008 in The Porch
Been listening to this song a lot the last 2 days.
To top it off, they did it with a KISS member on stage as well.
For those of us who were there, were lucky to witness this.

I never cared for KISS and always associated them with the glam-rock genre, which I never cared for but thanks to Mike and Matt, I'll give these guys a thorough listen.

Mike's intro vocals and Matt's lead vocals worked collaboratively well together.

The only other time they tried this was at The Vic last year and they messed up a couple of times- I wasn't there but have the show on my iTunes.

I hope they pull this out more often because I fucking love this song! :D

Hell yes. Pearl Jam does a decent job covering it, but the version on Kiss' Alive! album has way more fire to it (metaphorically and literally). And, Peter Criss has a stronger voice on the vocal, giving it more fire (again) as well.

Well I have been waiting for this one (check the name). Anyway MSG II was my first show and to have Ace there was quite amazing. You see my first show at MSG was Kiss when I was 12ish. Can't beat having your all time favorite band covering your favorite band from when you were a kid. Kudos to my dad (a Frank Sinatra fanatic) on taking his son to the show in 78.

I thought Matt and Mike were phenomenal (Mike certainly ripped it), the background vocals were great! The only thing missing was Matt's drumkit rising to the ceiling at the end of the song as Peter's did way back! Now that would have been awesome! Work on that for the next MSG show boys (maybe Jeff spitting blood too)

Yes, you're absolutely correct about how phenomenal Matt and Mike were. I know Mike is a huge KISS fan, and I believe Matt is a fan also and it's great to see them sing that song instead of Eddie. No offense to Ed but that song fits too perfectly for Matt and Mike. I'm glad Ed gave them their moment. Incredible moment, indeed!

I think Ed had a hard time holding back I was 1st row side stage and it looked like he just wanted to jump in and throw down some lyrics. Glad he didnt... Mike and Matt rocked it and from what I heard ACE was impressed!

KISS is definitely a great stage act with blood and costumes. Never seen them live only on Vids but sure wish I could have seen them in their prime!

Your dad rocked..I'm strugling with when I should take my kids to their first concert have a 4 and soon to be 7 year old.

I grew up on KISS in the 70's, huge fan. I have seen the original 4 members 4 or 5 times since 96 including a solo Ace Frehley show at Nokia in Times Square in April.

MSG2 was my first PJ show, I was loving every minute of it. When Eddie introduced Ace I was so surprised my knees buckled :)! I loved the version and I too was waiting for the drum kit to rise at the end ! Was awesome to see Ace up there with PJ.

Mike seems like he's not too confident in his voice yet, but Matt did a great job.

I don't notice that, I was behind the stage on the third floor and Eddie was drinking and bobbling to the performance. Seemed like he enjoyed it as much as we did.

Just took my 7 year old (and his "girlfriend") to Sheryl Crow at Summerstage. He was too short to see,s o he wound up on either my shoulders or my wife's arms. He loved it and will listen to her album in the car. You should definately take the older one to a show. Eddie might be a great start!

Personally, I think Matt nailed it...and that's saying something coming from me.

This is one of Matt's biggest contributions to Pearl Jam since he joined them in '98, Matt's voice is lead singer quality. His vocals have added new texture to Pearl Jam's catalog of songs, it has helped Ed out tremendously.
