No matter what your view is on this bill, I'm sure most will agree the United Nations should have no say in the matter.

From Gov Jan Brewer:
As you know, the Obama Administration and Secretary Clinton submitted SB1070 to the United Nations Council on Human Rights so it can be "reviewed" by foreign countries like Cuba and Libya. The attached link lists all the countries that serve on the UN Council who will be reviewing SB1070. This is truly internationalism run amok and unconstitutional. I will fight any efforts by the State Department and the UN to interfere with the duly enacted laws of our state according to the US Constitution.

How many times the USA government listened to the UN? how many times the USA end up doing whatever they want even if the UN is not in favor? I wouldn't worry about this IMHO

There is nothing wrong with peer review by a disinterested third party.

Everyone says how useless the UN for a variety of reasons, but the main reason it is unsuccessful is that it is merely a reflection of its members. If everyone acts in their own self-interest, that's the result we'll see.

I'm curious as to your input about my above comments. It's very easy to dismiss the UN, but the reason it is the way it is is because of it's members (us included).

oh i wouldn't laugh too loudly if i was you.

the US has done plenty to shield Israel, with their poor human rights record, from United Nations sanctions.

interesting how people conveniently forget this.

Not to mention the use and sanctioning of torture, illegally detaining foreign nationals (in isolation, with no rights,..), state sanctioned killing via the death penalty, etc. The list is long, not even mentioning what the US do in other countries....

So you're ok if we're no better? Is that our aim in life, to be as good or no better than the rest... striving for a C grade in life doesn't seem all that noble, altruist or redeemable does it?

I am not fine with that. Much like we should not be the world police the world should not have a say in local issues here.

I am not in line with UN treaties that violate our Constitution and I am not in line with countries dictating what happens here.

I am also for trying US Armed Forces members with treason for wearing a UN badge.

In theory I agree with some of your points, but in practice it is very naive to think if we become isolationist in nature, it actually removes us from world affairs. The reality is we are all over the world in forms of military, economic and culture standing.. our influence and power is vast. Being the world police comes with the territory of empire. And the failure of the 20th century which was multi-national organizations like the UN, IMF, WB which had hopes of creating development and peace through greater interest for the benefit of all has fallen to self-interest, greed and globalization. As a result, we see the world as it is now... our empire, our power, nations following our lead, self-interest, policies which undermine world peace, development and the greater good... and because it's our empire, our power and control, it's our responsibility to police it. When we are ready to not have the dollar be the main currency, or our military and economic standing be the trump card for the world, we will not have that responsibility of policing the world. As I said before, if our aim is to be merely as good as the next poorly run bad guy, then we're on our way.. but if we actually want to be better, achieve more and have a world of peace and equality for all with all the tenets we based our nation upon but haven't really carried out, there's only one way to do that... it's by leading by example and with everyone involved in the world. Not isolation nor self-interest.
