How did Denver win the division? San Diego had a better conference record. I thought that is how they determine the tie-breakers if the division records or the same since Denver, San Diego and San Diego each went 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the division. San Diego was 7-5 in the conference and Denver and Oakland went 6-6?8/28/98- Camden, NJ

Since they have the same division record it came down to who had the better record against common opponents, which Denver took."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

with 3 teams tied for a division, it goes
best % head to head
best % division record,
best % record in common games
