in sight you’ll find
a forever light
glowing, maybe calling your name
leaving a space to wrap yourself up in
cozy, warm
silent

I stared at the book all night
without the nerve to open it
the title, “Your Future”
seemed far too foreboding
far too reckless
maybe another time

the heat lifted
and a cool breeze swept the room
the too quiet room
once solitude
once peaceful
now dark with loneliness

ashes to ashes
ghost to ghost
the chill of the night called me home
but I couldn’t find my way
lost in the night
lost in life

finally opening the book
I found only blank pages

I feel your loneliness,
when our doggie is not there we are truly alone.
