I'll be there. I've seen them twice in the past year here in NYC (last Aug at Irving Plaza, and earlier this year at T5), and they put on a good show. Their new album far exceeded my expectations, and the new singer is solid. I was always a big AIC fan back in their prime and am glad I still have the opportunity to see them tour and put out music. If you have the money and have been a longtime AIC fan, I think you'll be glad you spend your Friday night going to that show...

It's kind of like going to see a REALLY great, cover band. probably fun, but not the same.

    There's no missing pieces though.

AIC is Cantrell's band. He's responsible for the sludgy guitars and haunting vocal harmonies, their 2 biggest calling cards. It's his voice that gives those harmonies that AIC character.

I've seen them a few times without layne and it is still a great show and a lot of fun.

I asssume this is the blackdiamondsky tour? Mastodon kills if you like good metal bands. Don't expect it to be anything like Alice in Chains though.

go for sure! saw them a year ago on their first leg...show was great. I'd never seen them without layne and this was before the album came out too. I'd kill to go see them again on this tour if i had the cash (mastadon is a solid metal band opening and deftones aren't too shabby either). If you love AIC the show will not dissapoint. Duvall's voice is extremely strong and fills in reeeeally well. I personally think the new albums is right on par with the rest of their stuff so i'd say...GOOOOOO!!!!

Exactly...so many people are completely unaware of how much of the writing Cantrell does/did for AIC through the years. I'm not going to try and tell anyone that it's "the same" but the music is excellent and William's voice match for Layne isn't too far off.

  • I've seen AIC 3 times now with the new singer and let me tell you, they put on a hell of a show. They rock harder than most any band I've seen; if you can believe it, they've gotten better each time I've seen them. Seriously, GO SEE THEM. You will NOT be disappointed.

It's really not like that, though. I've only seen old concert videos of them with Layne, but it still feels like he's there in spirit. Everything about this reunion has been respectful to him, and even DuVall has said that he could never replace Layne. They're keeping Layne's memory alive, and moving on into the future, as well. And as long as Jerry is still manning some vocals, it could never be a 100% cover band, either.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

  • I would love to go but I'm trying to get GA tix but no luck. Does anyone have an extra ticket. I'll pay face value. ;)

BTW, Yes go see them. They don't sound like a cover band. William D. sounds pretty in his way. He's not trying to be Layne at all. Musically the band sound the same. You will not regret it. It's totally worth it. :P

EDIT: I got my GA ticket for MSG yesterday. I guess they were releasing a few. I can't wait to see AIC and Deftones!!! 8-)

There were GA tickets available on TM sporadically throughout the week, glad you found 'em! What'd you think of the show? I thought AIC's set was great (albeit slightly shorter than I would have liked, but that's what happens with two established opening bands). I was a little disappointed in how many empty seats there were in the venue, but what can you do. All in all glad I went!

    The Show was AMAZING!!!
Mastondon were good. really liked how they sounded live.
Deftones...What can you say...One of my favorite bands, Kicked Ass. Chino Moreno sounded his best. Too bad their set was short as well. He showered us in the front with water and saliva during the song "You've seen the Butcher".I was singing along.lol
Alice in Chains...WOW what a show!!!! Yes it was sad to see that the Garden wasn't sold out. These bands deserved to have MSG sold out for their hard work all these years. Hopefully in their near future this will happen.
I got bruised up (fighting with the crowd...had to stay in the front. I'm short), my voice was shut down because I was singing my lungs out through their set.
I remember there were like 3 or 4 crowd surfers coming towards the front one after other...it was crazy bcs security just pushed them back to the crowd...very dangerous, some fell hard. One actually hit me in the head...all the pain was worth it for AIC!!!
I heard that security had the setlist and that Rotten Apple was on it but for some reason they sang Love,Hate,Love instead :(
Loved the way they opened up with Them Bones! Got the crowd hyped.
Man in the Box and Would was a great finish to their encore. I can't wait for their new material and for them to come back to NYC.

My friend bought section 422 but I guess the sections below didn't sell that security told him and his friend to go to the lower levels. I don't think it was bcs AIC isn't big, I think it was because people didn't want to pay more than $35-$40 to see these bands. When they play by themselves that's how much the band charges. But hey I really didn't care to spend my money...to have two of my favorite bands play in the same venue...It was worth it. ;)

thats really cool. kids today and their moshing really turned me off from seeing them at msg. terminal 5 night 2 concert was a pathetic attempt at moshing.

I was there that night too, but I was up on the left side. Everyone down below looked like they were conjoined. Worst crowd I've ever experienced there (T5) was at one of the NIN "wave goodbye" shows last August. Made it almost impossible to even enjoy the show.
