Hey All,
I'm thinking of getting my first tattoo done soon.
I have a few meanings to my tattoo but i guess they can all be narrowed down to one simple line which everyone here know, "I am mine".

I've been thinking of different ideas of showing it in the tattoo, but i do not wish to basically just write it down on it.

I was thinking maybe the community here can help me come with something clever to represent it.
I'm a person which is very connected to nature, music, being responsible for what we do in life, being ourselves and not get influenced by what i think is a very broken human society.

Would love hearing your inputs on design ideas.

I am also going to italy this month, and in october ill be 4 months in australia/new zealand (primarily new zealand), i would love to hear if somebody knows of good tattoo artits, or parlours.. primarily italy or new zealand.. i want to get my tattoo before i head on to the long trip, or at the end of it.. so i wont have to suffer limitations from to the sun/fun etc with the time the tattoo needs to heal

Thanks in advance 8-)

  • When I get my PJ tattoo, which will hopefully incorporate lines from three or four different songs, I plan on getting "I am mine", or maybe even "I know I was born and I know that I'll die, the in between is mine I am mine" on the quill of a hawk feather, with the feathers being an important part of the overall design, and each of the three feathers having something different on the quill. Personally, I like the idea of having the words there, but a little hard to see. But that's me.

Who said anyone was joking? I'd rethink the decision. When your 50 it's gonna look kind of not good anymore.

Unfortunately people are gonna give you shit when they hear what your tattoo stands for. Mine is my profile pic. It's on the inside of my right arm. I didn't want it covered up I wanted to be able to see if everyday.

If you want a tattoo get one...don't let anyone tell you what you should do.

    Just my two cents....

Symbols might work nice for what you want to do. Heres a website with many different categories of symbols,
perhaps there is one that expresses the "I Am Mine" that is uniquely you :D

  • Are you male or female? Where is this tattoo going and how big do you want it? All major factors. I am heavily tattooed (most of my upper half) and have a few that I dont like as much as I did when I got it but dont let anyone give you the ol "youll regret this when your older" line. Every tattoo tells a story about you, who you are, what your where, where you where at, and what you've become. Yes tattoos fade with time and our skin gets looser but thats the beauty of the tattoo it serves as permanent reminder of a time in your life that you where bright and carefree, a story that your grandkids and hopefully your great grandkids will be asking you to tell them. Tattoos are a fantastic thing.

With all that here is my idea, how bout the Vitruvian Man (made by Di Vinci, I would not have the penis tattooed on personally, there's the Italy tie and a subtle kick to Vitalogy) with the words I am Mine scrawled across his outstretched arms. Thats my 2 cents. http://jbsecure.com/images/Journals/J-102-0013_vitruvian_man_500.jpg

First of all thanks for everyone that replied.. everything was very constructive.
    I did forget to mention.
    first of all im male
i want the tattoo on my leg's shin, just below the knee (on the front facing side that is)
thats my original position that i want my tattoo to be on, it might change according to the tattoo itself.

mostdefiled - nice idea, i thought of this bigger sentence as well and ill probably do it, the "little hard to see" idea is cool.. what do the feathers/quill mean to you, if you dont mind elaborating?

dimitrispearljam - i saw these photos, they are all kind of the same thing, but nice to look at. i also saw www.tattooedeverything.com a few months back..

bump30 - i know, thanks for the kind words :) what does that symbol represnt? was it on one of their albums?
    i saw it also at: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2 ... =fbx_album

pandora - thanks for the idea, ill take a look at the website

hairjosh - i wrote the details above :) your idea is really cool, not sure though about how i will write the i am mine, maybe i will put it like he has his own tattoo with i am mine. the thing is, what did you mean by "there's the Italy tie and a subtle kick to Vitalogy", i didnt get this part .
p.s: i totally agree with everything you said about tattoos, it's an amazing piece of art ill surely put on my skin soon enough! thanks for your words and encouragement! much appreciated!
    awesome replies!!

Just saw LA Ink on TV last night, some dude got the Vitruvian Man on the side of his ribcage, Kat put some Fleur de Lis designs around that general area wrapping around his body. Looked awesome done in a sepia coloring.
As others have said 'if you want a tattoo, then get one'. I don't regret mine 17 years later. It means something to you, who cares what others think?

btw hairjosh.. whats your idea behind using the Vitruvian Man? how it resembles pj's stick man logo?

p.s: its pretty funny, some people told me i resemble the stick man logo.. specially when im walking around with a tshirt with the drawing on it

zchick, i dont care what other people think :) i will do my tattoo for sure.. but thanks for strengthening this point

funny so many people say something about this part, where i actually didnt say anything about it! i dont give a flying F what people will say.

funny i used to see miami ink in discovery channel, and i hated kat, dont get me wrong she does amazing tattoos but as a person she used to annoy me all the time in the show, and it doesnt even seem she belongs to that parlour.. its funny how she copied their idea of a show and did her own, very low if you ask me.. suits her though.. i didnt even see the show once, but the commercial was so hilariously copycat lame!

disagree, I got my first tattoo, which is PJ related, when I was 51 and of course it looks great.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
    ride"!

    Don't

I'm 34 just got my first one 2 years ago. Going to get my 3rd one next week (something related to vinyl). I absolutely love my first two. If it's meaningful to you, you will not regret it.
  • In your OP you said you where traveling to Italy and New Zealand, the original drawing done by Da Vinci is housed in Venice, hence the Italy tie, Vitalogy is a Pearl Jam album but it was first a book published about health and the Vituravian man is commonly used in the medical field so there is the tie there. As for the writing I thought either it being a tattoo on the man's arms or you could go with the words "I am Mine" in "Eddie esqe" handwriting over the top of the man, as if you had the man tattoo first and wrote I am mine over it. That however should be left to your artist to decide what looks/works best.

Iam actually getting a PJ inspired tattoo in the next month, mine is the Official Seal of the US but with a vulture as the bird holding a money bag and a scarlet letter, with PJ hidden in the feathers with the words, Born on Third Thinks He Got a Triple around it. Going on the inside of my left arm (the only blank spot left). Best of luck on your new ink!

    hey dude,
    thanks for the 2nd reply..

oh i didnt think thats why you tied it to italy :)

i said im going to italy as im thinking of getting my tattoo there, or at in new zealand at the end of my trip.

my gf (which i really hope one day ill marry0 is actually italian and she loves Michelangelo, she really adores him, so it suits also :D

both the ideas you gave me are very good.. and i really love your idea for a tattoo

the lil kick to vitalogy is like a small hidden message, but it isnt one of my favourite albums, so its not exactly the type of message and significance i want my tattoo to have, but overall your thinking is awesome..
i think i need to pay you to give me more ideas  with all your tattoo history, im not suprised your ideas are creative instantly in that direction

i had a few more thoughts and stuff i wanted to do before the vituravian man, so ill try and see if/how can i combine everything together.. i also want to incorporate something hidden from the eye, with a hidden message.. thats why im still thinking of it. but the base layer is now very cool.. i need to feel complete with it though, the idea is a bit new to me and different from what i had in mind, i still need to adapt to it.

p.s i would love to hear more ideas if people have.. maybe even based on the Vitruvian man idea i received with the i am mine sentence, or the longer ones "in between the lines" one..

i love it how the Vitruvian man resembles the stick man so much 8-) at least to me

If you want to get it done in New Zealand there's a good place on Queen Street in Auckland called Ballistic Tattoo. I've been there a few times and they're really nice guys and great artists

  • You asked about what feathers mean to me- birds are one of the lenses through which I see the world. The tat I'm planning (just need some money!) is going to represent my past, the part of my life that was beyond my control, and the person I am now, which I do have control over. Since birds are a big part of who I am now, we get some feathers. One of the feathers will be from a merlin, which represents home to me, a red-tailed hawk, which was the subject of the first short story I ever got published and I associate with my writing and creativity, and the third will be from a turkey vulture, which I associate with compassion and rebirth. For me, if I'm getting a tat with someone else's words, I want those words blended with something that's mine- the words wouldn't be so important if they hadn't blended with my mind, my heart, my journey. Hence, writing song lines in the quills of the feathers. And everything in the natural world rewards you the more carefully you examine it, so almost hiding the words in the quills of the feathers mimics that.

Just my two cents. But seriously, if you want a tat, get it, as long as you're sober when you make the decision, and adult and you've thought about it for awhile. I know plenty of people who've gotten ink when they're in their 40's and 50's and don't regret it.

Thanks for the words most defiled.. i really liked the part of the reason you have for incorporation ones words, with something that is coming from you..

as these days pass my craving for my tattoo being inked on me is growing stronger and stronger.

if anyone has any more comments to add it would be more then welcome.. any idea, even if its not mine if i can relate to and feel the same would make me take it as a basis to what ill do.

thanks again for anyone who posted and i really hope ill get more posts here to further enrich my outlook on the tattoo..

and yeah tattooedeverything.com doesnt work for me either
