Question: Isn't MSG 9-11-98 the all-time best?

From someone who has (unfortunately) attended only a handful of shows, but has listened plenty of boots, has there been a show better than this one?

I did not attend but in listening to this one versus a lot of shows from 1992 through 2007, the stars seemed perfectly aligned that evening. I never tire of listening to it. And everytime I do, I feel like I am right there. And it's like I am hearing Breath played live for the very first time.

I was there and it might be. I have lucked out and seen some highly praised shows. For me I would say 9/11/98, Penn State, and the VIC are all about even, each was great for different reasons. The 3rd Mansfield is right there too. Irving Plaza wasnt too shabby either.

Looks like we are going to all the same shows this tour! I'll be the 6'5" guy with long hair(maybe) ruining the view of the people behind me.

I always feel bad for whoever is behind me, and I always try to stand to one side or the other to try to not totally block them, but what can I do.

I may do Hartford too, but that will be a gameday decision.

I think one of the reasons I was so blown away by this one was I bought the boot for $50 off ebay back in 1998 and it was like nothing I had heard before. When I received it in the mail, the cover had Eddie hanging from a microphone.

Bootlegs were just more elusive back then so when I listened to it I was instantly blown away. Personally I am glad shows are easier to come by nowadays but back then it was like finding the ultimate diamond in the rough.

Plus, something about Yield, the year 1998 and the band's seeming excitement about performing live again, the unearthing of old songs, just made it. To this day, it's the one for me although I def agree that all the others above are in my all-time greats.

How do I find the DVD?

i love the organized religion line, thus ending the breath campaign.

I have been two two or three of the contenders.... and I wasn't at 9/11/98; and I will vote for it based on other fan's reports, the video and boot.

    Greatest show ever!

I was at the 9/10/98 show the night before the memorable 9/11/98 show, there were some equipment problems and other things that turned the 9/10/98 show into one of the shortest shows I've seen Pearl Jam perform. Ending with Soldier of Love was also a little disappointing, Mike started Yellow Ledbetter but Ed stopped him and they went into Soldier of Love.

Some cool highlights of the 9/10/98 show.

1.) The "Breath" signs were in full effect, I had a floor seat and was surrounded by them. They commented that Stone forgot how to play it or something.
2.) The Ken Star Files bit was actually really funny.
3.) The songs that did not suffer from equipment problems or Stone forgetting a solo (All those Yesterdays) were some of the best performances of those particular songs I've heard them play. Jeremy, Long Road and Alive were particulary good. During the end of Alive everybody was screaming "yeah, Yeah, Yeah" while Ed pumped his fist in the air.

From the shows I've been to I would rank the best as 9/29/96, even though the sound system they were using was not the best (I remember my friend commenting the system he had in his Impalla was better) the vibe from the crowd and especially the band made the concert one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Ed singing and waving to the throngs of fans who were standing at the toll plaza of the Tri-Borough bridge above right of the stage was very memorable. When you thought they were wrapping up, they would keep playing, and playing. Awesome show!
